I guess i will have more to consider the question with after this cruise as we are going back to a 10 person table.

I am sure with all the people(large table) we were engaged in conversation with that we were not thinking much about the servers.

When it was mostly just me and DH and funny enough i lost my voice for 3.5 days and could barley make a sound sowe were really needing server interaction.

So 2 drastic situationswith 2 very different sets of servers.

SPEAKING OF THE HEAD HONCHO.......I didnt really care for him, didnt see him much and although i did tip him the resonable amount and sure he works hard in the back ground.....had to really work hard at giving it to himwith a smile.............. NO FLAMES PLEASE!!!!!!!:confused3

Congrats on 5000. I'm not far behind you.

As to servers. I think our opinion of servers is much like that of food. It all depends what you expect. The youngest our kids were when we sailed Disney, was in their teens, so I didn't experience (and did t expect to) the behavior of your Putu. However, on our six cruises, we have had wonderful servers and we've sat at tables varying from an 8-top to a table of four. The two best memories I have is first, our cruise in 2001. Our server was Zoltan from Hungary and he was wonderful. Two years later, we were with kids in 2003 and saw Zoltan working the tables next to us. We went over to say hello an as we approached he recognized us and gave us a warm greeting. As it turned out, we had his wife as our server. I have a picture of the two of them and our assistant server with the five of us. They've since left DCL and I believe are running a business back home.

The second time was our cruise last year. We were at a table of four and our server treated us like family. My wife loved the little crumb scraper she used to clean the table cloth and on the last day, she surprised my wife with a present of one.

Personally, I don't expect much more from my servers than to keep my drink glass full and be friendly. Anything on top of that, like Putu's interaction with your kids is gravy in my book. I have heard horror stories of truly awful servers, but thankfully, they seem to be far and few between.

We have been very lucky in having great servers on both the Wonder and the Magic. My DH and I renewed our wedding vows on the Wonder and ate in Palo that night. Our servers made sure all of the kids in our party were well taken care of in Animators Palace while we were gone. They even gave us a status report on their behavior later! I must say our head and assistant waiters Melroy and Esther on the Magic last Thanksgiving were incredible and a lot of fun. My DH fell in love with Esther and she gave him a crumb scraper too! Linda and I are hoping we can connect with them next year if they're still on board.:boat:

tjbaggott - I'll be watching the Penguin/Senator game tonight!:woohoo:

We have only been on one cruise and our servers were friendly and sweet, but that was really it. I did not really expect more than that though, so I was not disappointed.

They did do some extra stuff (origami with the children's menu for the kids, smiley face with the ketchup, cut up the kids food sometimes) but not to a great degree. Our asst. server was brand new, but it did not really show except he did not know whether or not they had ginger ale on the boat until the second night. They did seem to know what was the best food to try.

Yep, Melroy and Ester rock. Melroy has been on the Magic from day one. Esther was working to buy a “little home by the sea” in Trinidad. They were a big part of our last vacation. I would love to dine with them again if they are still there.

Unfortunately we don't get the channel that one is playing on tonight. Let me know, if you see it before I hear it, how Mike Fisher plays tonight. I'm off to see NEW MOON tonight!! This is the only thing (well this plus booking another cruise) that made getting off the ship two weeks ago, not as hard a thing to do!

We are going to drive by the port here tomorrow and get a look at the New
OASIS OF THE SEA.

Wow the prices for that are up there.....

Hey All!

I'm heading south - down to Cozumel!! So, Any updates I will get to when I get back - round about November 30ish!

See Ya Real Soon!

And when you get back, I'll be heading to the southern Caribbean. Can't wait!

Yeah! We were just given 4 tickets to the Sens vs Washington game on Monday night! Anyone here a Washington Fan?

Lexandme, how did the game turn out the other night?

Is she going to be back in port already tomorrow? I know she is at sea today but check it before you go cause I think this pre-inagural cruise that is going on now is a 4-night cruise (I think it is the Labadee Extravaganza). If I see for sure when I am on CC later I'll let you know.

Yeah the prices are absolutely nuts for the next few months. Remember how we were originally supposed to be going on the Oasis in Jan before we switched it to the Independence? The price for 7 nights on the Oasis with a somewhat lame itinerary in a one of the neighborhood view rooms (not sure if it was Promenade or Central Park) was nearly $8,000. The price for 8 nights on Indy in a better rooom ( D1 superior balcony) was less than half that.

But yeah it is because it's new. We priced out the fall cruises and they are in a more reasonable range (i.e. less than Disney...LOL) :rotfl2:
What an amazing boat though. They did broadcast segments from it on GMA today. I haven't seen it all yet but what I did see was pretty impressive.

Have a great time Janice!!! :thumbsup2

Can't wait to hear about the QM2! Exciting!:)

I typed up a huge post yesterday about servers but I lost it b/c my computer locked up on me. Somehow I never made it back to repost it. But suffice to say on two cruises (one Magic, one Wonder) we had wonderful service. On one cruise (Wonder) we had not so great service. Our server was OK but nothing to write home about. Our assistant was pretty abysmal- no refills and he dissappeared halfway through the cruise. His replacement was good though we only had her one night. Our AS last cruise did tell us that servers and assistants usually start out on the Wonder so service there is more likely to be less polished than on the Magic.

I see we have some cruises coming up, what does everyone else have planned for Turkey Day? My family is doing something different, we are heading over to an "upscale" RV resort in Kissimmee. Gonna do the whole fried turkey down home southern thing. Should be ..interesting.

OK Lynn, maybe it will be there. It isn't on the Labadee Extravaganza yet.

This is the best info I could find posted today:

It did an overnight cruise to nowhere last night. Left the dock about 10PM last night and was back in this morning. She is doing a few more 1 or 2 night cruises before she leaves on Dec 1st for a 4 night.
