What was the name of the book?
We had freezing rain yesterday but seems okay today...:)

I hope the weather is getting better at your hometown! It's so cool for me by the way, I have just read a book that is set in Des Moines, Iowa, a city I had never heard of before, and as soon as I finish the book I read your post and now I actually "know" a person from Des Moines, Iowa

HI all!! I'm going to be cruising with you!!!!:banana::banana:

We are glad to have you and your DH sailing with us :cool1:
I will add your names to the roll call on page 1 :thumbsup2

It was "The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid" by Bill Bryson, about his childhood in the 1950s. It was really funny but don't worry, I don't believe half of what he writes about Des Moines, especially after I read his other book about travels in Europe ... He does exaggerate more than just a little :thumbsup2

Freezing rain is what we've got here too, but no snow as yet. If I get my wish, it will stay dry for another three days and then on Friday, when me and DH get off work for the Christmas holidays, we want to see a snow-white city! :santa:

Hi everybody,

another "milestone" reached: We have now added the gratuities to our cruise account, and I have just prepaid them . I had asked on the main board about how to prepay gratuities and I was told to simply ring DCL.

However, I don't really like to phone the US as it is quite expensive - and I am also always quite apprehensive that I won't understand the person on the other end of the line
That happened to me quite a bit when I made my many ADR's for our WDW honeymoon, there were over 30 of them to be made and there was no way I'd hold out for that long in a single phone call speaking English, so I split that into like 7 or 8 different calls (which of course made it all EVEN MORE expensive ).
But that way, whenever the person on the other end was speaking too fast and/or had an accent I couldn't understand, I just made one measly ADR, thanked them and hung up, just to call again and hope that I would have a different person on the line :sad2:

Anyway, so much for silly me and my fear of talking on the phone in English. To avoid repeating that drama, I simply sent a message to DCL via the online contact sheet and explained my wish, and a very friendly lady had the gratuities added to my online booking so I could simply look onto my account and pay from there. Very easy and very customer-friendly!

So, the next thing I am eagerly awaiting is for the confirmation letter of our post-cruise WDW stay to arrive (renting points from a DVC member) ... I can't wait for the letter to get here!

Have a nice evening everybody,

Annika

:yay: One more thing to check off your "to do" list!

Hope you all had a great week and are all ready for the Holiday season!

We now have . . .

Hi everyone...I guess all of us in the Northeast are getting ready for the snow storm. Guess I will be in building a fire and baking cookies tomorrow. It would be nice if the snow lasted until Friday, a white Christmas would be nice.

Hope everyone stays safe.

Now they are predicting 16 inches of snow....why couldn't this happen on a work night....

We are with you on that one Tigger/Pooh4. And this is only the beginning.

I feel bad for all the people who have flights today for their cruise. I hope they make it.

I haven't been on this cruise yet and I'm already thinking about the Mexican Riviera Christmas one for 2011. :P

Where are you in Philly? We are in New Castle De. We are supposed to get between 18 and 24 inches of snow. We are going nowhere right now. The Wii is getting a work out right now.
This kind of weather is the reason we always fly in the day before. Flights in the northeast are a mess right now.

We are in the east falls section, near Manayunk. We have been baking all today, the Wii will be on later. I heard Deleware is close to a state of emergency.

I am amazed at the number of people out driving around. There is nothing I need that bad that is worth wrecking my car or worse getting hurt or stuck.

We have a family Christmas party tomorrow but that has been canceled. Looks like we might have a white Christmas.

We always fly in the day before too. But we always have a backup plan to drive just in case. But Mark reminded me that what about the poeple who were flying in today for a cruise tomorrow. I guess it's a crap shoot when you travel in the winter. Another reason to have insurance.

I hope conditions are better up your way. I do not think a drive up Manayunk hill is possible right about now. We are buried and it is still coming down strong. The drifts will be huge by morning. DD and DS went out and played in the snow this afternoon. After an hour they were frozen popicles.
We always fly in the night before and stay at the Hyatt.
Here hoping everyone made it to the Magic this afternoon as we watch her leave PC. This will be us in 43 weeks.

yea...we are buried here too. Just shoveled for the 3rd time. I learned a long time ago not to wait until the storm is over. Easier to do it in segments.

Cute picture of the kids...

I don't envy all of you who are having record snowfalls. Looks like the worst of it will head out to sea before it gets to Maine and only the coast will get a dusting. Let's see if they're right!!:santa:

OK...I love snow but this is getting crazy. I don't know what to do with it...The piles are starting to fall back onto the sidewalk and they just said another big surge is expected around 10:00.
