I know, this cruise is sold out and this thread moves very slowly. I guess every one is really busy or first timers!!!

I had a job interview this afternoon. I think it went ok, but they got 80 resumes for one position and interviewed 12. So we shall see!!

How is everyone doing? It's been awhile since I've been on. Our family is looking forward to the cruise. Our friends the Jenkins won't be sailing with anymore  due to a school conflict with their son.

Does anyone know if there is a board on DIS for first time cruisers? I want to find out about what I can take on the ship, info on booking excursions etc.

Do we have a count on how many families are doing the fish extender? I want to do some stuff over the summer while I have some free time.

Can't wait to catch up with everyone again.

I don't know if there is a first timers board, but there are a lot of people on this thread that have a lot of experience cruising with Disney. So please ask away, there are lots of people here to help :grouphug:

Okay here are some of my questions....

1) Someone had said that we should pack bottled water (true or false)?
2) Do we have to book our excursions prior to the cruise?
3) How many pieces of luggage can each person bring on the cruise?
4) On another thread someone said you should bring sand toys etc for Disney's private Island (true or false)?
5) Again on another thread I read that it's a good idea to order room service before you leave the ship on an excursion and then take it with you in a small cooler (I assume I would have to bring that) because then you know its safe to eat? Is this really necessary?
6) Is there anything special we should be taking with us other than the usual vacation items?
8) I heard the only thing you have to pay for soda's,booze, photos and excursions everything else including roomservice and all your food is part of the price you pay for the cruise?
9) Can anyone recommend some good excursions for us to do with our 8 year old son?
10) We have the early seating for dinner do we need to make any other special reservations for meals?
11) I read the cruise line as a photo pass like you get at Disney World does anyone know if its worth purchasing?

I'm sure I will think of a few more ?'s before we sail but will start with the above. Thank you all in advance for your help with this.

Lets see here.I think I can answer a few.

1) Someone had said that we should pack bottled water (true or false)?Depends.Do you have 1 type of water that you cant live without? In August it was Evian bottled water.

2) Do we have to book our excursions prior to the cruise?
If its a more popular excursion the answer is yes, as some will fill up quick prior to sailing(Dolphin encounters for example)

3) How many pieces of luggage can each person bring on the cruise?
I thinks its 2 plus carry on but Ill check and make sure

4) On another thread someone said you should bring sand toys etc for Disney's private Island (true or false)?

There are no free or rental toys on CC.However, DCL does offer a small packet with there logo, thats resonably priced. They have the same on on CC.Comes with 1 or 2 buckets, some small molds of the ships, a small shovel and a few other pieces. You can go to a big box store, and get some different ones.We got some from Walmart, late inthe year and used a few small heavy plastic garden tools and a sand bucket kit.The tools were 1 or 2 dollars apiece.End of season.
Whether you buy them here and take them with you or buy them on the ship is up to you.

5) Again on another thread I read that it's a good idea to order room service before you leave the ship on an excursion and then take it with you in a small cooler (I assume I would have to bring that) because then you know its safe to eat? Is this really necessary?

You cannot bring food off of the ship unless its in a factory sealed container.

6) Is there anything special we should be taking with us other than the usual vacation items?
Small power strips, over the door shoe organizer for the bathroom,

8) I heard the only thing you have to pay for soda's,booze, photos and excursions everything else including roomservice and all your food is part of the price you pay for the cruise?
Thats pretty much it.Add in tips and Palos (the adult rest)to the not paid list.Sodas though are free with your meal, and the deck 9 soda fountain. If it comes in a can its extra. If its in a cup its free.

9) Can anyone recommend some good excursions for us to do with our 8 year old son?
I have an 11 year old at the time of sailing and a 9 year old, and Im taking the 11 on a sub tour. Not sure which yet.

10) We have the early seating for dinner do we need to make any other special reservations for meals?

Unless you want to go to Palos, the adults only rest nope.Everything else is walkup counter service.

11) I read the cruise line as a photo pass like you get at Disney World does anyone know if its worth purchasing?

Theres 2 ways to get photos on the ships.
1 buy the pics individually or in a package. These will come with special DCL borders. But it can get costly.
2.Buy the photo cd.The cd will have all of the pics from the cruisem but not the border.Im not sure what the price would be off hand.Ill have to look for the current price.

ok, I will give it a try, please correct me if I am wrong

1. There is perfectly good water at the drink station. I bring a few bottles and refill for excursions. You can't check it you have to carry it on.
2. You can but you don't have too, but some of the popular ones will fill up.
3. DCL will send you two luggage tags per passenger. You can add more at the port if necessary,
4. Yes, if you have room, more expensive on the island.
5. We have done this, just too keep the kids happy, There is not always food when they are hungry- on snorkle boats- buses- beaches.
6. See the packing list on the disboard thread.
8. Soda is free with meals or the drink station, if your order from a bar you will be charged. There is no charge for room service, but you should tip.
9- some one else will have to help, don' have kids this age.
10. Palo has adult only brunch and dinner you can make reservations when your date opens up.
11. Don't know this either.

Hope this helps.

additional items:
jacket for the terminal, can be very cold.
