well, i am geting excited about the possibility of being able to see the sun set from BALCONEY......or should we call it a VERRRRRandah!!!!

Ok I checked it...we are in fact scheduled to depart Key West at 7:30PM...

The good news is I checked the Farmer's Almanac for that day and this is what I got:

Rise and Set
Key West, FL
Latitude: 24:33:45 N Longitude: 81:45:39 W
All times are Eastern Daylight Time at sea level

for Sunday, October 17, 2010

SUN RISES 7:26 AM
SUN SETS 6:59 PM
DAY LENGTH 11:33

So it looks like we will get to see the whole sunset, although there may be a mad dash from Mallory Square over to the Port/Pier ship embark area (which is right there in the immediate vicinity but may be difficult to get to...last time we were there '05 or '06 I remember large areas being blocked off, VIP tents restricting access, etc. ) With a whole 1/2 hour to spare IMO that is more than sufficient amount of time to get back onboard, though! :thumbsup2

:cool1: Thank you so much for looking this up for us!!!! I'm so happy we will ge to see it!!!!!

I asked this question over on the budget boards, but maybe you all can think of some things too.

Family reunion.....October.....12 people...me, dh,my 4 kids (2 have spouses),mom,dad, bro in law,neice

Really nice resort, not Disney though...going to Universal and MNSSHP.
5nights.

I need ideas on how to turn the not Disney resort into a GREAT VACATION SUITE....

Here are ideas i have so far...

Fresh flowers
balloons
confetti on floor
mints on pillows
candles on balcony or in bathrooms
special DISNEY soaps i have collected over several vacations

i will also have a small gift for each person when we pick them up from airport.

how about mini gift baskets for each person, filled with goodies?
you could get mini canvas bags and fill them up with there faves chocolates, sodas, gum....whatever
and on the bag you could have their names or dates?

balcony, verandah...same thing LOL

How do we find out which way wew ill be facing

Do you thik in port the balconies fast east/west....

Or is the boat docked east/westsothat the balconies would actually be north/south.

Oh gosh i will have to get Dh onto that one....

He is good at figuring these kind of things out.

OK, this is the best I can do for now...

We have been there, on the cruise ship dock. I think I actually have pictures (*somewhere, old skool prints, lol*) but to the best of my recollection (and Ron corroborates this) the boats pull in head first parallel to the dock with the nose facing north (toward Mallory Square). That would mean that port side would overlook the water (and the sunset) and that starboard will overlook the dock and city.

Here is a little diagram I found online to help visualize. I, personally have only seen the large cruise ships in Pier B...never the outer mole.

HTH! (we are Port----yay!) Although we love the atmosphere of the party in the square and probably will not be able to resist viewing it form down there!

Thats awesome.........

If i am not mistaken i think we are above you guys or below you guys.

Dont remember which.

So if that is the case i do imagine we will be seeing the sunset from our balconey.......

Unless we get too involved in the stuff going on out side the ship, although we usally try to be back on the ship at least an hour before we leave.

THANK YOU FOR THE INFO!!!!

Holy cow! I was four pages behind!:scared1: Seems like ya'll managed to carry on without me. I'm sure it was hard.:rolleyes1 Now I know I have a nenner TR update to go see though.

All,

I haven't seen much talk on this thread, but there was some on the main board about the fuel surcharges. I noticed that DCL isn't charging a Fuel Surcharge on new reservations, but we still show it on ours. I called DCL and asked for it to be removed and they did. It appears they are not consistent on who and when they charge. There was also some talk about giving OBC for the amount, but this seemed a bit shakey to me.

We booked this cruise while we were on our last cruise in October and as far as I know we were not charged extra. On our last cruise some people received credit at the end of the week and some did not (including us). I'm not sure why either.
BTW Welcome!!!

:upsidedow Ron says we are starboard this time. I thought we were port...

So I guess we won't see much sunset from our vantage point...:headache:

LOL, that part of the spreadsheet was right. Actually the rotations are right too, it was only wrong for my last cruise because of the itinerary change and Pirate Night swap.

Hmm, I think that's what happened to us (we got OBC)...I'm not sure.

I have been anxiously awaiting feedback on the new Magic Menus. I took a look at them, they are posted HERE..

The rotational menus are the same as the ones on the Wonder- which there was a lot of discussion about when they changed a while back. The other three menus...Pirate, Captain's Gala and Til We Meet Again don't seem to have changed much. The main thing I noted was the abscence of steak/beef (not counting venison- blegh) on the Captain's Gala menu. I know most ppl eat Lobster that night (not me) but every other night has some sort of steak option so I am suprised at that. Sadly the AP dessert menu does not excite me. And I am not a fan of the little "sampler" dessert trend going on everywhere (Give me a full sized dessert !!!) Which now the samplers are the top items on the dessert menus. I don't get it, if you are on a cruise and you want to sample different desserts don't you just order one of each and not some little shotglass samplers ;)...!?!?!? /rant..:rotfl2:

I was perusing the main board today and saw mention of "Mini-Navigators" created and handed out onboard by other meet thread participants.

I think this idea is awesome! Has anyone been on a cruise where someone made a mini-DIS Navigator? If so, tell me about it! I assume it has info like lists and stats of meet thread participants, cabin locations, FE participants and FE maps (deck plans, we did have that on my last cruise) Info for Dis Meet and Group Photo...think of the possibilities! I think this is such a great idea! :thumbsup2

What do ya'll think???

LMAO...I was doing research on the mini-Navigator concept and found a link to this in a different meet thread...Other than the colors it looks suspiciously like my original....:rolleyes1

I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! :goodvibes

(when I make our new one I'll have to pimp it out a bit so it is NEW and IMPROVED! :lmao:)

What do ya'll think???

on our last cruise we made a mini navigator and emailed it out to everyone on the cruise. On it was...
Birthday's List (for people celebrating birthdays while on vacation)
Anniversay List (people celebrating Anni's)
Dis Meets (Date, Time and Location)
And a list of all Diser's with their real names

We had a seperate list sent out to all people participating in the FE exchange.

We also played a game of tag with a mickey head magnet. Whoever wanted to play would have to take this magnet and place it on a door of a Diser on the list. They just had to choose a name on the back of the magnet. It was fun. I think we had a couple of those being passed around since there were so many of us playing.

LOL...why mess with perfection???

A few other things we did was make a List of all Disers on the cruise with ...
Dis name, first name, email, dinner seating (early or late), room #, Hometown, etc....
We had all the flags of where people were from and the flags of where we were sailing to on the list. I still have it for a keepsake!!:goodvibes

Another thing we did was, we had a website (address only mailed out to the people on the cruise) with different information on it all reguarding the cruise.
We had our Navigator that we made, Info on Castaway (websites links)
Info on every port of call to where we were going, Door signs some of us designed, T-shirt designs, FE list, Dis meets, tag game, family pics....etc

Kristin (kritter) and myself looked after it. It was alot of fun :goodvibes

maybe we could do something like this again?? I would be more than happy to do it again.

Wow! What great ideas! You all are certainly an industrious lot.:lmao: If I wasn't a total slacker and/or knew anything at all about what's going on, I'd offer to help.:rotfl2:

pinkygirl~ LOVE the ideas, I think that is fantastic!

I totally think we should do the mini navigators and I like the mickeyhead magnet thing too!! :thumbsup2

YES! YES! Is my vote!
