Oceaneer's Lab & Ocean Quest on Magic

I see the bigger fonted breakdown of ages on the right hand side of the page but on the lower left it states that Quest is for 10-14 year olds.

So now I"m totally confused.

The link you sent to DCL wasn't totally clear either. I'm also getting conflicing ages from the travel guides (which of course were out of date the moment they printed them).

We were on the Magic on the 12/20/2008 sailing. The Ocean Quest was for ages 11 - 13 during the structured programming time (which was most of the time except when the Navigator said Open House which was in the morning usually). The Oceaneer's Lab was for the 8 - 10 yr olds.

The reference to the 10-14 year olds at certain times is in reference to the open house times in the mornings that are posted in the navigators.

The link is to the description of OQ on DCL's site, which I also quoted in the post which states that the OQ area is for the 11-13 age group. This is where their main activities are done. As with all groups on the ship, they do not remain in the "main area" for every single cruise. They will go to the other age group main areas when those kids are not there, the theater, the sports deck, secret deck 7, etc.

thank you all for claifying! i'm glad she will have a chance to check out navigating the ship. she was so looking forward to it! But i'm glad she is in the 8-10yr old group.we are traveling with friends and their dd's are in the lab as well!!!

This makes me really nervous. I guess I have a 10 months to get comfortable with the idea.

I appreciate all the info. It gives me something to think about. :goodvibes

You will be amazed at how comfortable it will feel. I didn't give DD sign out in the lab initially, but did at about age 10. We just set the rule that if she left she had to go directly to the cabin. Otherwise, she could ask them to page me and wait for me. By her 11 year old cruise it was that she had to go to the cabin and leave me a note about where she was.....now she thinks she owns the ship.

I have been thinking about this all night since I found out. I just don't know how comfortable I will be letting her walk around the ship unattended. It just really scares me.

Our room is on deck 5 forward so maybe I could tell her that she has to go to the cabin if she decides to leave the OQ. :confused3

I really liked the idea of the kids club when I thought that they both would be in the Oceaneer's Lab together.
