Oceaneer's Lab. Age to be able to check themsleves out?

Hi, my DS will be 9 next year when we cruise. He will be in the Oceaneer's lab. What is they age they can check themselves out? I am hoping it is not as young as 9, and if it is, can a parent note that they are NOT allowed to sign themselves out? TIA for an info
