Going on the Western in August. My son, 12, is probably at that in-between age - "do I want to go to the Oceaneer Lab, hang out with older brother :rolleyes1 , Hang out with mom and dad :bored: , or hang with some friends that are coming along". Is the Lab the type of thing the kids can really just come and go as they please? Also, is there a rush to sign him up - is there a limit to the number of kids that can participate?

Thanks

My 10 year old dd was allowed sign in and sign out privleges on our 5/1 cruise. She would give them her KTTW upon entering the lab and then when she wanted to leave she would let them know and they would ask her where she was going and then they would page us with the information. If she just wanted us she'd have them page us and tell us to come and get her. It's a great system for the older kids especially if they have friends and decide they want to go do something else for awhile and come back...then at least you don't have to go get them..they just page you where they are going. DCL limits the amount of kids for each age group so no there isn't a huge rush to get him signed up right away...If you decide to do it the first day go before the lifeboat drill as after dinner is a mess! You can sign him up for free and it doesn't matter if he ever shows up..all you'd need to do at the end of the week is return the pager.

Hope that makes sense!

the lab is geared for 8-12 year olds. heck i even got to play on the labs computers for a bit. you can allow the DS12 to sign him in and out when he wants. just incase mom and dad what to along time or big brother wants to get away. just a thought

I definately would recommend your ds to check out the Lab. My ds (also 12) didn't want anything to do with it at first, I had him check it out and he LOVED it. He met two friends while there and they were inseperable the entire cruise. He even ditched my dh and I the last two nights for dinner. He did have sign out priviledges and it worked out great he could come and go as he pleased. Hope this helps.
:D
