Oceaneer Club Feelings.....

The first time I left DD in the club, she had just turned 3 and she had never been in a daycare situation before. It was much harder for me than for her. The first time I dropped her off, she just walked away and never looked back. I was standing there saying Bye, I Love You. I would go and sneak in to see how she was doing. She loved it. That was on our 7 day cruise. This past March we went on our 2nd DCL cruise (a 4 day) and she enjoyed the club, but not as much. There were times she was ready to leave and there were times that she wanted to go back. Not like our 7 day where she wanted to live there. She had been in preschool, so she was use to being in that type of situation the 2nd time around. They counselers take really good care of the kids and I didn't hestisate in dropping her off. Sorry for being so long.

Our 7 year old LOVED the club! We dropped her off after the evening show and she told us "don't come back until midnight!"

She had a wonderful time and my DH and I had some "grownup time" - nightcap at the piano lounge, stroll along the deck, stop at the comedy show.

DD met a very sweet little girl from Missouri and they still are penpals -two years later!

We only used the club during the day twice - once when DH and I went to Palo's for Tea and another time. Given the choice of some pool time or "making Flubber in the club", guess what DD picked?!
:p

The great thing about the clubs are the pagers. This way, if your child is uncomfortable about staying, you can be paged immediately. That's what gave me the comfort to leave her there!

I just want to confirm that the pager system is awesome. DS 6 could not wait to get to the club. He usually wolfed his dinner down and then DH would take him in between our courses. When DH returned, we had a child free meal (the other children at our table picked up on this and did the same thing).

Anyway, DS usually stayed for several hours and the pager worked great. He always had a great time, but we told him he could stay up as late as he wanted watching the Disney movie in bed. He typically crashed shortly after the movie started, so DH and I enjoyed an evening on our verandah. Paradise!!!

Sorry, I got off topic. The pager system is great.

first cruise, our daughter was a bit reserved about going and at the time she was about 3 1/2. when we later picked her up that first day, she didn't want to leave. from that point on, we had to make a schedule with her of when she could go. it was a bit traumatic (for us!) - we never left her with anyone up until then.

on the second cruise, we were ready/prepared and let her do as she liked - every day, on average it had to be 4 hours that she spent at the club. I began to wonder - just who's vacation was it, hers or ours?

I have always been impressed with the kids clubs....they are incredible, and my degree is in Early Childhood development. I say go for it, they will be fine.

OH...one thing, do check up now and then, those counselors do a great job, but its up to parents/families to make sure all is well:)

I would have had no problem leaving my 3yo DS in the club... except he wouldn't stay. I think my kid is the only kid who hated it. My 9yo LOVED the lab, though. I'll vouch for the pager system. Since we were paged almost immediately for my 3yo. We tried to leave him there several times, but it got to the point where he would start crying "no club". I'm hoping for our next cruise, he will stay in there!!
