Which is the better Ocean City
New Jersey or Maryland?

Or is there something better than either I mean I don't have to go to a place named Ocean City.

I've never been to OC, Maryland so can't compare but OC, NJ is a dry town, family oriented, nice boardwalk, good beach (need tags), delicious Mack & Manco pizza. From what little I've read, the other OC is probably nice too.

I grew up in Ocean City, NJ, so I'm a little biased... but Ocean City New Jersey *is* America's Greatest Family resort.:thumbsup2

As Philagoofy mentioned, it's a dry town, so it's pretty safe. Good pizza and sandwich shops. The beach is clean, the boardwalk is nice, and the downtown is cute as a button. And, where else on earth will you find the Miss Crustacean Beauty Pagent? Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.:woohoo:

I find that OC Maryland is a bit more built up than OCNJ, but otherwise nice. ...like I said, biased.

It all depends on what you like to do. I enjoy going to both Ocean Cities, but found that Ocean City, MD was more to my liking during my college years. Now that I'm married and have kids, Ocean City, NJ just can't be beat for its family-friendly atmosphere. :thumbsup2

We've been to both and prefer NJ.......

Ditto - we've been to OCNJ every summer for the past few years, but 4 years ago decided to go to OCMD instead, we didn't like it as much. I think OCNJ is a better fit for our family.

OC Maryland definitely has more to do, bigger boardwalk, amusements, activities, etc. But, it attracts all ages so there are lots of bars and clubs where as OC, New Jersey is a dry town so you are less likely to encounter "undesirable behavior."
We stayed at Port O Call last time in OC NJ and it was clean and comfortable and right on boardwalk. Now we usually rent a condo.
Have fun!

I'm from 20 minutes from Ocean City, Maryland and I'm in college. I personally like OCNJ better because it is a "dry town" and it's not as crazy as OCMD.

what does "dry town" mean?? no alcohol??? anywhere? ever?!?

In my opinion, a vacation isn't a vacation until I've had a delcious cocktail...my vote would be for OC, MD

They don't sell alcohol anywhere in town, but there are bars, restaurants, and liquor stores right outside town lol. You're free to bring in alcohol and consume it in your home, but you can't drink it on the beach or boardwalk.

Any suggestions for hotel in OC NJ?

Don't look for places in "Ocean City". Look for "Maramora" and "Somers Point." Those are technically "Ocean City," (in the way Manhattan & Brooklyn are NYC,) and you may find better prices.

Yes, you will know where the edge of town is, by all the liquor stores and restaurants. :lmao:

I've never been to OC NJ, so I can't comment on that.

We go to OC MD every year, and although it isn't "dry", it is certainly large enough to avoid that element if you want to. We stay in a motel just off the boardwalk (like 32nd)...and it's a perfect location. If you rent a condo, there are literally TONS of them all the way up. The higher up you get, the more calm it seems to be.

We find the beach to be very clean, plus free, which is a bonus. There are a lot of places to eat, and play mini golf, etc. Rehoboth outlets are close by. And of course, if you like to eat crab, MD is the place to do that! We like Higgins the best!

Have fun!!
