Just wondering if anyone here is familiar with the Ocean City, Maryland area. Specifically a nice, clean place to stay for a family of 5 (2 adults/3 pre-schoolers).

Maybe it is just me, but all of the places I have seen on the web look like very dirty hole-in-the-walls. But yet, everyone you talk to says it is such a great family place. Where the heck are all of these people staying!?!?!?

We were considering going to OBX (Outer Banks, NC), but were told by several people it was not very child oriented. _ But---WOW!--The homes that they rent out at OBX are amazing (most with a private pool and a hot tub/jacuzzi!). It seems like there aren't even any private homes for rent at Ocean City, MD...let alone one with a private pool. Again, maybe I am looking in the wrong places for information.

So--if there is anyone that has any suggestions for a CLEAN and pleasant place to stay this summer in Ocean City, please share. Any nicely themed (thinking Disney here) resorts in OCM?
Perhaps a nice gated community?

Thank you so much,
Hentob

Being that I grew up less than 30 miles from OC, worked there in the summer, and have returned and stayed at several hotels there, I can help you out.

The Dunes Manor is beautiful, with a Victorian theming, but more for older people and not very kid friendly.

The Quality Inn Beachfront is beautifully decorated, on the beach, has a rooftop pool and an indoor pool with a waterfall jacuzzi. The room I usually get has 2 double beds and a kitchenette area.
The boardwalk is a walk away, there are bikes and surreys to rent, and a tram that can take you to the inlet or stops anywhere you would like along the way.

If you decide to look at other hotels, PM me, and I can likely tell you about them.

I am in Ocean City right now at work. I live 11 miles away. If you are planning on staying for a week please consider staying at a condo versus a hotel/motel. You can get a better deal most of the time by doing so. We do have several new hotels here in town that may be worth checking into. They are the Stowaway Grand on 21st St (on the boardwalk) and the Holiday Inn at 17th and boardwalk. Here are a few links to our local real estate offices ......

it is ony a few years old and rooms are decorated nice and clear
rooms have small balcony microwave, refrig, and sink in kitchen area
we like it the best

I'd go with a condo if I were staying in Ocean City. I've rented through Moore Warfield and Glick, click on the link maciec provided.

I love the Dunes Manor!! My favorite part is how every room is oceanfront...I love ordering room service and eating it overlooking the ocean on the balcony!!

I am not sure why you were told that the Outer Banks are not child oriented. We live in Maryland and have been to Ocean City but chose to vacation in the Outer Banks. We have been going there every summer since DD was 14 months old. She is now 16 and we have a 14 yo DS. I find Ocean City to have more for the teenage and college crowd where the Outer Banks are far more family oriented. The Outer Banks does not have a board walk and isn't as commercial but has Jockey's Ridge State Park and the Wright Brother's Memorial and other parks and attractions. There are 5 lighthouses and the beaches are very nice. If the ocean is too rough for the little ones, you can always swim on the sound. We stayed in the Quality Inn at about 154th Street in Ocean City, which was fine. We always rent a house in the Outer Banks.

Feel free to PM me if you want any additional information.

Just had to stick up for my beloved Outer Banks.
