Which DVC will accomodate 5 in a room?
Both resort and and type of room
2 adults and 3 children

Children are ages 4, 11, 12.

I understand that I may have to bring an air mattress.

I just do not want any problems.

Thanks

Officially, you need a 2 bedroom since your youngest is over 3.

Unofficially, you could get by in a 1 bedroom or possibly a studio. DVC doesn't really care if you are over by 1, especially a child.

I am not a stickler for the occupancy rules, especially when you are talking about young kids, but I am here to tell you that they grow up FAST. Mine are now 13, 11, 9, and 6. They get to puberty real fast and no longer want to share beds and bathtubs!!!!! We love the 2 bedroom units, it is really the reason we bought DVC, but I don't think people whose kids are still young need mega points now. You can always add more points down the road when you need more space and it gets tougher to go in non-peak times (it is too tough for our older ones to make up the ton of school work they now have!) DVC is not going away, you can add points as needed, it will just get more and more expensive like everything else....Lacee

I'd like to stay on-property, but with three kids it looks like Disney really socks it to you.

Are there any reasonable accomodations that will allow us to have our three girls with us in 1 room (17, 12, 8)?

Thanks in advance for any ideas or advice.

ps. We actually have 4 kids but my son is off to college and won't be there on 13 and 14 june 05 when we need the room. We are arriving a couple of days early ahead of a group trip staying at a value resort. I was hoping to treat my ladies to a fun couple of days at the Beach Club Villas or Boardwalk Villas. (renting points, I am not a member)

I have to say, the one drawback I find with DVC is the lack of options for families of 5 or 6 (unless of course you have a fam of 5 w/one young enough for a crib). When we travel it is usually myself, DH and our 4 kids (none under age 3) and we have to get a 2 BR villa, which is the same that we get when my parents travel with us. I just wish there was an option for a 1 BR that sleeps 6 (a sleeper couch in the LR and 2 queens or a queen and a sleeper couch in the BR). And we could even live with 1 bath! I have had a few conversations with MS about this and I was hoping that maybe SS would have a room such as that but ... I'll just hope for the next DVC resort....

By the way, if you really want the Epcot area and would consider a non-DVC room I would highly recommend the deluxe concierge room at the BWI. It's a "junior-suite" type of room that sleeps 6, with 1 bathroom and a little wet bar area. Rack rates a a bit more than regualr rooms but not as much as a full suite and you can sometimes get discount rate ( we saved 20% on our upcoming trip with the AP discount).

Pixie dust for your planning!!

While I am not opposed to a DVC resort in the future having a "specialized" accomodation for 6 people, it really does not fit into our current point configurations...is also is not a "Standard" room type for trading outside of DVC via II or RCI, if DVC continues trade options with these companies. Another possible negative would be that it would encourage folks to "overpopulate" standard 1 bedroom units, if a 6 sleeper unit is not available, I'd bet a lot of folks would opt for a regular 1 bedroom rather than spend the points for a 2 bedroom. Not that some don't now, but I think it would be even worse.

I believe that Coronado Springs and Port Orleans have a limited number of rooms that accomodate 5 people, no idea on the cost of these rooms.

If you do one of the All Stars you would have to get two rooms.

In the past we've stayed off property at Quality Suits, they have rooms that sleep six, and were reasonable, close to the park, not on property.

Near Downtown Disney theres Governors Inn or Holiday Family Suits? that have rooms for 5. How about the cabins at Fort Wilderness?

Your not going to June, i'd start researching the cost of different options now, then compare that to lets say a 2bd at OKW for two nites.

good luck

We are also a family of five and stayed once in the AKL in a Deluxe Savannah view room with one queen, bunk beds and a couch which folded to make a twin bed. Not a sofa sleeper, but the back sort of slid down and made what appeared to be a regular twin size bed. This worked for us. I know that Port Orleans also has a room which sleeps five ( via a trundle bed) and I believe that something in the Contemporary may also sleep five (may be mistaken on that). We joined DVC when we had our third child, knowing that we would need the 2 BR accomodations for a while. Good Luck

The Polynesian has rooms that sleep five - two queen sized beds and one day bed that is twin sized.

DVC will allow you to have 5 in a 1br. Been there, done that. Had it on the ressie and got 5 keys. Was totally upfront and asked when making the ressies and was told - sure you can do that - we just don't give you any extra bed, towels etc.

And for just two nights, I wouldn't think you'd mind sharing the bathroom with 4 others.........

We have 4 kids and would not want to share a single bedroom or a lone bathroom with all 6 of us. The 2 bedroom is the best way to go and only DVC has it and the program makes it affordable. I do not sleep in the same bedroom as my kids at home or share a bathrrom with them either, why would I want to on vacation???

Heck, our 4 kids want us to get a grand villa for just the 6 of us so that they won't even have to share a bed and so that the 2 girls can have their own bedroom and the boys have their own.
Not yet, but in a few years, I would have to agree with them too.

I don't understand the reasoning of wanting to put more people into a room designed for less. If it is the money than it should not be used on a vacation. If you want to save money, then go camping. If you want to have a relaxing, spacious villa, get a 2 bedroom and enjoy your time both together and separate from the kids. A 2 bedroom, especially at OKW, isn't that many points.

Port Orleans Riverside (aka Dixie Landings) will allow 5 in a room and it is a moderate so not that expensive as it would be. You can also rent points from a DVC member and get a 1 bedroom and bring an airbed for the 3rd one to sleep on and just rotate who sleeps on it each night to avoid arguments.

I have to agree with Rex on this one!!! We have 4 kids ages 13 down to 6, and the 2 bedroom is barely big enough for us. They actually fight over who gets to sleep in a bed alone, we usually have to make a rotating schedule so everyone gets their chance! When they were younger we did do the trundle bed thing at Dixie Landings, as well as the 5 person rooms at the deluxe resorts when the youngest was under 3, and we felt VERY crowded. Three of my kids are girls and one bathroom would be just awful! It would take hours of waiting in line to get ready and out in the a.m. When the kids are little bathing and sleeping together are fine, as they get close to puberty forget that!!! My kids would love the Grand Villa too, but we don't buy lottery tickets so having enough points for that is never gonna happen LOL....Lacee

We have 3 kids and have not had a problem with a 1 bedroom mind you our kids are smaller (younger) than yours. You may also want to look at getting 2 rooms at the All Stars get ajoining rooms with a connecting door between them then you have 2 bathrooms and 4 beds etc.

I would echo the Ft Wilderness Cabins. They sleep 6, and are usually the cheapest of the deluxe resorts (not to mention, my personal favorite!!). They are the most like DVC.

DVC unlike more timeshare - say one adult has to be 18 years old not 25 - so next year your oldest could sleep with her sisters in their studio and you in yours....

if that is much for you.

then go with FW cabins - a full bed, bunks beds and a full murphy bed in the living room. It sleeps 6. - only one restroom.....

there are 2-bedroom that slept 6 - they have 2 twin beds in the second bedroom and I don't want DVC to do that!!!!

Otherwise you need a 2-bedroom to stay at a DVC resort with a full kitchen.

If you only want a room - the Polyn, Cont, GF, some rooms in the BC/YC has 2 queen beds and a day bed - the one in the Polyn and the Cont are the size of a twin bed - the others are smaller. I think these will rent from CRO (WDTCO) as much as a 2-bedroom from a DVC member.

not certain about the BWI???

there are suites at all the WDW deluxe resorts and CSR - but boy those things are expensive!!!!

Hope you find what you want.....

I think DVC has the ideal that if you are rich enough to surport 3 or more children - then by their way of thinking - you should have enough money for a 2-bedroom.

Ditto what Rex said, we did 4 in a 1 bedroom at VWL, my kids are ages 12 and 4, that was tight, a reall cramp always folding and unfolding the sofa bed, and waiting on the 12 year old in the shower!!! I'm waiting for more points to do an add-on, so we will always be able to do a 2 bedroom for extended stays. 4 nights in the 1 bedroom was enough, any longer, we would definately want the 2 bedroom.

the cabins are a great alternative, they do sleep six, it is cozy, but it works. Put the kids in the room, and the parents can sleep on the Murphy bed.

I want to stay in the Epcot area. It is one of the WDW areas we have not explored yet.

Thanks for the info.

Maybe for 5 but not for 6. We are a family of 6 and DVC has been just what the doctored ordered. Getting a 2BR has saved us thousands of dollars over having to get two connecting rooms at one of the deluxe hotels.

I too agree with SSRex. Well said.

The families that I know that have 5 in them have all used Port Orleans. We just stayed there for the first time this summer (but we were in a room for 4) and loved it! I was amazed at the difference between the value and moderate resorts! WOW! It's great!

We used our DVC points there also (we needed a room on July 4th and there were no studios available--so Port Orleans was our next choice).

Good Luck!
