Occupancy Thread

We had been planning to get a 2 br for our trip but there are none available. If we got 2 studios (by renting pts), would we be charged an extra fee for not having double occupancy in one room since we only have 3 adults and 2 children?

Carrie

No. If you are renting points you can have up to four people in each studio unit, or four people and one child three or under in a pack in play. Points remain the same reguardless of one person or four people occupying the room.

We are very excited about our first visit to Disney at the BCV. We have been to Disney with our children 12 times but this is our first vacation club experience. Our nephew wants to join us for a few days. We have 4 of us already in a studio. Has anyone ever tried to put 5 in a 4 person studio? Are roll away beds available? Thanks for the help!:earsgirl:

expect this post to be closed shortly.

lots of members get very upset about this.

Disney will not give you cots or roll away beds for any DVC resort.

How old is your nephew? I don't think DVC cares about an extra person, especially when it is a child. They do not provide rollaways, you would have to bring an aero bed. If you are talking about 3 older children (teens), I don't think you will be comfortable.

That child better fit in a pack and play. (Is that what they call it?)

We made ressies for two bedroom next year and told them there would be nine of us. We were asked the ages of everyone. They were ok with it when they found out one of us would 8 months old.

Besides not getting a bed, your nephew would not get a room key or towels or bedding of any type. If you choose to do the Extra Magic Hour, they check room IDs when you enter the park.

We are DVC wannabes...surfing this board and others soaking up all the bits of info out there. We're now considering renting points for a Nov. 2005 trip to have real taste of the DVC experience. So here's the question: Can a family of five(me, DH, DD-17, DS-16, DD-11) stay in a 1-bdrm? Allowed by Disney? If so, would it be comfortable enough, considering we'll spend little time in the room? I've seen conflicting info on this issue. Obviously, we want to do that for the point savings, but not unless it's by the book (or at least with permission).

The stated occupancy limit is 4 for a Studio or 1B, 8 for a 2B.

You will probably not be allowed to book a Studio or 1B if you try to put 5 names on the reservation. The front desk will not provide you with more than 4 room keys, which means you run the risk of one of your party not being able to take advantage of EMH, which often requires proof of residence at a WDW resort.

The resort also will not provide you with extra bed linens, nor will they stock additional towels (although you may be able to pay for more).

Also be aware that a One Bedroom has a King Bed and a sofabed in the living room. Some people feel that it isn't even very well equipped to house 4 individuals, much less two adults and three teens.

Where you go from there is up to you...

I hear you...sounds like we better plan for the 2-bdrm. Thanks :)

I too asked several questions about room occupancy before we made our purchase last year. I was stunned by the emotions I sparked. I've generally stayed away from the topic since then, because it was always the same stuff.

But I decided to re-read this thread this morning from the very beginning and I noticed something unusual. Several people very politely pointed out advantages and disadvantages of exceeding occupancy.

Yet the "flame" category really consists of two complaints which are 1) "rules are rules" or 2) "you're damaging the resort for the rest of us".

I could only find four posters, all with multiple posts, who seem truly rankled by this issue. The frequency of these four posters, I think, exaggerates their perceived numbers.

I remember some of their names showing up a year ago when I asked the same types of questions

Look back through the old threads; look at people's experience with MS; read not just the number of posts, but the name of the poster, and you'll probably reach the conclusion that the degree of controversy here is far less than it appears.
Excellent observations, I hadn't noticed these points before. I agree that the controversy is exaggerated. 5 in a one bedroom is not as big a deal as the repeated postings of some who are very verbal on the subject make it out to be. Each family knows what is best for them.

They WILL allow you to book a 1br with five people on the ressie. I've done it. They even put 5 on the confirmation. Don't know about the studio.

They WILL provide you with 5 room keys. I've had them.

They will not provide the extra linens and towels. I haven't asked, but they said they wouldn't when I booked the room.

We use a studio on our trips quite often and have 3 kids and 2 adults and we have never had any problems with it at all. You should have no problem putting 3 kids and 2 adults in any studio we bring an air bed with us and use that it works just fine.

quite often and heave 3 kids and 2 adults and we have never had any problems with it at all.

Is it more fun heaving them from the 5th floor than the second?:teeth:

Ain't it fun when you type fast?

Ya it is more fun LOL. Especially when you don't go back over the post to be sure you didn't make any spelling mistakes mind you I am sure it still would have looked fine being all strung out on Demerol and Percocet from my knee operation this week LOL. Mind you there are some days whenyou would like the heave the children from the balcony LOL.

How old are your kids? And do you use the aero bed or something like that, or just put three in a bed? And do you include all five on your ressie? I've been considering the 1 bedroom for the 5 of us. I hadn't thought of trying a studio

We bring an air bed for my oldest one to sleep on she is 7. They all move around to much to try and put them all into one bed together they would all kill each other during the night LOL. So I sleep with our son and my wife sleeps with our youngest daughter. They are currently 1.5 3 and 7. We had my mother with us on one of our trips also so I slept onthe air bed with the oldest and my mom shared a bed with the youngest daughtere and my wife slept with our son.

Well, that would work for a couple years, then what? That's what I'm wanting to find out. If we buy, we want to buy what we can actually use. And if our only option will be a 2BR, then we know DVC is not at all an option for us.
*****************************
This is the part i was wondering about (the above is from the other thread)...if you do NOT buy, what were you planning on doing when the kids got older, get two rooms? put 5 in a regular hotel room? Those costs would add up (rising hotel + tax)). If i were thinking about DVC, think of the MOST you would use and buy from there. You may want to bring friends or family along someday (i know its hard to imagine now when they're little), but believe me, that 2 br will be looking pretty good down the road as they grow!

We have a family of just four and when the kids were little we could easily fit in a studio. I thought, no big deal this is still a lot of room compared to a standard hotel room. Well, they grew up and much faster than I expected. DS is a pre-teen but the size of an adult and of course we have the one girl/one boy thing. We stayed in a standard hotel room the first night and were really cramped for room--next time I will book two rooms to avoid this. We also stopped booking studios. They take turns on the airbed to avoid sleeping in the same bed--they'd rather have their eyes poked out with hot sticks! It is only a matter of time before I will prefer a 2BR to the fighting!
DVC is still a better option for us!
