Occidental Grand Xcaret ... anyone been there before

My impulse buying is out of control ... just booked an all inclusive with direct flights from YHZ to Cancun at 4.5 star Occidental Grand Xcaret. Everything in it was $2617 cdn for 2 adults 2 kids. I leave on Sunday!

Anyone else been there?

My better half was there a couple of years ago for a girls trip and loved it! Very close to the eco-park and ruins and just far enough out of cancun to be less busy.

I've traveled with them before and this never happened and hope it never does.
If you want more info on the resort check Trip Advisor, I always refer to this site before purshasing to give me an idea of what I am getting into.

But my departure time is reasonable, I don't leave until 10:30am. If anything the negative press might improve the situation ... I hope?

My last vacation to Mexico was not that great ... so I hope this isn't another negative one.

We were there a couple of years ago.. very nice resort outside of Cancun. It is closer to Playa del Carmen. Lots of variety in their food.. made to order omelettes in the morning... delicious. Resort is adjacent to Xcaret Park. Don't miss the night show. You can see more reviews on www.tripadvisor.com

If members of your group are beach lovers, they will be disappointed with this property. The beach is man made and small. More like a lagoon and limestone bottom. The nice thing about it though is because it is lagoon/cove the water will be calm so great for little ones, just be sure they are wearing watershoes to protect the feet. The pools here are absolutely huge and beautiful which helps make up for the beach, but they are not heated. Accomodations are very spacious and there is a nice variety of dining. The resort is very large so lots of walking and there are animals around the resort. There is a wonderful river with a gandola that will take you to Xcaret Park next door, or you can walk there along the path.

Please be sure to visit Xcaret Park. It is absolutely wonderful and has a number of programs that your kids (and yourself) will love. They have a fantastic river system that you can swim along (water is a bit cool), and they have the most amazing folklore show at night that is an absolute must to see. It's like the cirque de soilel of Mexico with over 300 performers. The park is definitely a full day visit.

It was awesome ... very pleased. Would do it again for the same price. $399 cdn plus taxes per person for flight (direct from Halifax) , transportation, room, all inclusive. Not a substitute for Disney, but very good value.

Only down side, was that the pillows were small, the Mattress was a 6 out of 10, and constant free food and drinks are hard on the waistline.

Also, never felt unsafe, but never left the resort or Xcaret park next door.

Glad to hear it was good....I've seen that resort a bunch of times at a good price. You got an awesome deal on that one....$399....I've never seen a deal that low for Mexico. I went once on a last minute trip to Dominican and paid $497....I didn't love the place but considering what the cost was it was just fine.
