We've been going to OC NJ for a week every summer for a few years now. We rent a house so have a full kitchen, but at least once we like to all go out for a nice dinner.

Looking for somewhere new, decent food and that we can take the kids. We usually end up at the Crab Trap and have even driven to WW Crest to Two Mile Inn.....I'm sure we're missing something better........any suggestions

OK here are some places. Remember most things are touristy and not that good. If you want sit-down pizza go to Piccinni's on 12th and West. Delivery pizza, Randazzo's on Asbury. IF you don't mind paying a bit and don't have too big a group go to 4th St. Cafe on, well 4th st. Very good, also great for lunches and am coffee/espresso. If they are doing dinner the Varsity Inn on 7th is good, also OC Surf Cafe two doors down, although they've been experimenting with their menu.
Off the island I'd always say Smitty's (Smith's Clam Bar) on the bay in Somers Point. Go a little early or expect to wait. It's byob. Specials are good and reasonable. The Anchorage across the street is also good. Charlies on New Rd. in Somers Pt. is good for pub food and wings.

Obediah's across the bridge at the south end in Marmora-EXCELLENT food, nice place overlooking the marsh. There's also Yesterday's across the street that is more casual, but also very good. Since both are across the bridge outside of OC, you can have a drink with dinner.

We like driving over the furthest south OC bridge to Strathmere and go to the Deuville inn. The restaurant is right on the bay and the food is decent. If you time your dinner right you can see a fantastic sunset and you can also eat outside on the patio.

We've also been to Yesterday's over the 34th street bridge which is nice.

There is also a fantastic breakfast place on 20th and Asbury - not sure what the name is (something Bill's) but they have awesome pancakes.

I've always wondered about the Dueville Inn also I can't remeber the name but the place in just off the circle in Somers Point and blue, Sails maybe???

Sails, overnight changed their name. I think it must be new owners. Deauville is nice.

You're recommending them over Mack & Manco's Pizza? :faint:

I look forward every year to inhaling slices of Mack & Manco's pizza when I'm down in OC. It is the ONLY pizza I consider even better than our authentic NY pizzas. If I could franchise their sauce & ultra-thin cracker-like crust, I would. I usually start with the M & Manco's at 12th St. on the boardwalk. Inhale a couple of slices. By the time I finish walking the boardwalk & beach, I end up having a couple more slices at their 9th St. parlour. <insert happy gluttonous smiley here.>

no nothing beats macks. Get that on the boards. BTW they are working on a franchise set up.
The other two places are just different. My sis from chicago comes for a week every year and grazes non-stop. She goes from pizza to fries to salt water taffy to...

I must be following in her slip-stream. :rotfl: Just follow the crumbs. Only, at the taffy place, I nosh on the fudge. :teeth:

It's about time on the franchise!

I do love Mack and Manco, something different would be nice, although don't they deliver to part of the island now? We're usually down at 5300 on Asbury but this year we're trying 2800 block, I don't think they delivered down that far last year.

We've found enough decent take-out, although haven't found a good Chinese place yet, hoping to try a good sit-down this year.

All this OC food banter has me really excited about my vacation there next month--1st stop is Preps for pizza--a family tradition--Uncle Bill's for breakfast--Yummy--can't wait:hourglass

We're there next month as well for the week of the Fourth of July. That's why I'm trying to get some ideas for food. Besides the obvious.

So.....Lid on or off at Johnson's???

Lid off of course. How else can you get the extra popcorn. Fourth of July is great. There are all the fun contests for the kids and the fireworks, etc.

I grew up in OC, NJ (and now am just minutes away). Mack & Manco's pizza on the boardwalk is the best. Fries with vinegar, Johnson's Carmel Corn, ice cream, etc. It's a fun place to be!

Have you ever considered going into AC to eat? The Tropicana has the Quarter which is really nice with a bunch of different types of restaurants in it. PF Chang's, Red Square, Carmine's, Cuba Libre, etc.

Sails was sold, it's now called The Inlet and either just opened or will be opening very soon.

A Touch of Italy in Egg Harbor Twp is a good one if you don't mind leaving the island.
