Tonight my 5 year old daughter fell asleep on the couch downstairs and I went to lift her and carry her upstairs. Now my daughter weighs 40lbs.

Well, walking up the stairs was a major effort. My knees felt stressed, I could really feel that it was a lot more effort to go up the stairs. I had no idea that 40lbs would make such a difference.

Just think how much kinder you are being to your body and joints by losing weight! This has inspired me to get that other 20lbs OFF!!!

thanks for the comparision

(I lost those 42lbs!)

Never really thought of it like that !

Thanks for the insight

I had a great Weight Watchers moderator, who brought it 10 pounds of Ivory soap, and built a big pile of soap on the table in the front of the meeting room. What a visual! She was grabbing soap bars and putting them on her her tricep, her chin, and the whole room was doubled over with laughter. I often think of that pile of soap, though, when I think about what a difference it makes on your body to lose weight.

Some day I'm going to start a thread challenging WISHers to go to the grocery store and make a big pile in the middle of the aisle with enough soap to represent their personal weight loss. Everyone will have to report back on how high the pile went, what other shoppers reactions were, and preferably the presentations will include digital photos. The best story will win something from me, like Mickey Mouse soap bars.

Have a magical day!

Thanks FreshTressa! My 6yo DD weighs maybe 38.5 lbs and, I know exactly what you mean! On a rare occasion, she's asked me to carry her and, I say, you're too heavy for me! Yikes, to think I've almost lost a whole HER!!! :teeth: And, I want to lose another whole HER! ;)

Wow, I never thought about it in those terms, thanks for the eye opener.

My 7 yo weighs between 57-59 pounds, and I think he is too heavy, well a little over a year ago I weighed that much more! Wow, I have lost a whole little boy.

looking at it that way really helps

my DH brought home dog food yesterday and i picked up the bag and dumped it into the food bin thinking that it was kinda heavy
so i looked to see what size bag he bought and t was 20 lbs and i thought my God i use to weigh that much more WOW

so when i told DH he says I know that is why i bought the 20 lb bag this time to encourage you and let you see how really great you've done...

he is such a great supporter of me and this diet

any way now i wanna work even harder to misplace another 20 or 30 lbs

LOL.... funny I had not read this thread yet and I was posting another (I woke up this morning and had lost 40lbs) and said it was like loosing my two goddaughters.... WOW! It is amazing! Oddly enough though I don't see a huge change in my body yet, a little in my tummy, maybe soon....princess:

I also had a great WW leader when I lived in CA & he used to say "just picture each pound you lose being 4 sticks of butter (since that is FAT)." It worked. I lost 100 lbs with him (unfortunately, they found me again :o ) But each time I lose just ONE pound now, I look at 4 sticks of butter & realize that is a big deal!! Of course, thinking that I gained back 400 sticks of butter makes me just sick! :( But I'm working on it!!

So Freshtressa ~ you've lost 80 sticks of butter

newholiday ~ you've lost 168 sticks of butter

tiggerlover ~ you've lost 228 to 236 sticks of butter

kaylajr ~ you've lost 80 sticks of butter

2angelsinheaven ~ you've lost 160 sticks of butter!

Now how about that for a visual! :earseek:

Here's another way of looking at it:

DH and I were in Walmart about a month or so ago. We were near the produce section and I stopped over near the potatoes while he was picking up some chicken. I was curious and began picking up 10 pound bag of potatoes. This was back when I was down 35 pounds. I had one bag of 10 pound potatoes in my left hand and another in my right. I asked DH to give me another 10 pound bag and he placed it in my left hand. In my right he handed me a 5 pound bag and I about died!! :confused2 :sad1: I walked a few feet with 35 pounds of potatoes in my hands and was just about to fall over from it!! I couldn't believe that I carried that on me for so many years. I was amazed at how heavy 35 pounds really was. Whooo....I am glad I no longer have that weight on me. I haven't got to doing 40 pounds of potatoes yet, but I will. Just waiting til I have DH with me to help.
You should all try that one day. I understand for those of you that have lost 50+ pounds or more that could be a little difficult, but try this instead, put what you've lost in potatoes into your shopping cart and walk around the grocery store with it to "see" what you carried on you for so many years. It's an AMAZING visual!!

Denise :rose: :cheer2:

Excellent observation and wonderful reminder to all of us that we are getting healthier by losing weight!

It is so amazing to think you have lost a whole person....a small person...but still a whole person! I'm looking forward to the day I can say I lost my youngest DD...almost 90 pounds!
