Okay.... I had this great idea, but now I'm at a loss, so I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me... or at least smile at this story...

So does anyone else remember those 1980's disney specials - you know before they aquired ABC... there'd be "tours" of the parks, and performances by artists at PI, and all that jazz... Admit it liked 'em too!

Well does anyone have any idea as to how I could find a song that was preformed at on one of those specials (guess circa 1985 or '86)??

Here's the story... When I was very little, 2 or 3, my parents were getting me ready for my first trip to Disney. To get me excited, they taped a few of these specials for me, and they became kiddie crack - I watched them over and over and over... In my favorite special, the band Alabama preformed the song "Celebrate." Perfect for getting me in the mood for Disney. So, the day finally arrived - we were at Disney world and I got to do all the things that I had seen on the special, and a Disney addict was born.

So about 3/4 of the way into the trip, my dad turns to me and says "Okay Joanna, we've been on Dumbo, and Peter Pan, and seen the Castle. We've done everything you wanted to do, right?"

Well I looked at him with my big 3 year old eyes and said "No, daddy, I haven't seen Alabama yet!"

My dad couldn't bring himself to disapoint me, and my mom was laughing at him like "how you gonna get out of this one, buddy" so he did what any good father would do -- he lied to me :rotfl:

We were strolling the streets of Frontierland, when a group of Cowboy-hat wearing, fiddle toating, street preformers came into sight.... My dad exclaims "Joanna - look Alabama!!" being 3 and all, I believed him and he somehow got this group to sing celebrate and take their picture with me.

So post-trip, for months, I went around showing people the picture of when I met Alabama... I went through this phase where people thought I was real special, cuz I was CONVINCED it was Alabama. :rotfl:

So over the years, the story became a bit of family lore... always with me getting laughed at :confused3 until a few years ago, when Alabama was on their farewell tour, and a local radio station had a contest to see who had the best Alabama story... so I entered and WON 6th row tickets!! So I took my dad to an Alabama concert - where we both realized that we don't really like Alabama :sad2: but it made for a really good story.

So now, he's been joking that he should walk me down the isle to "Celebrate" :lmao: I don't think I'll go that far, but it would be SO funny if I could find the Alabama version of the song to play at some point during the reception. Sort of a fitting tribute to a great dad - even if he does lie like a rug:rotfl2:

I've tried the usual Itunes and a couple other sites, but I'll admit, I'm sorta clueless when it comes to finding stuff like this... Plus I have no idea if it was every actually recorded, or if it was just preformed live that one time... Anyone have any suggestions?

I could always go with the Kool and the Gang version, since my dad swears that their song, Joanna, was the inspiration for my name (the big Disco freaks that they are :hippie: :sad2: ) Still more lies... but not nearly as cute ;)

First of all, such a cute story! :)

Second, is this the video you are talking about? (Scroll into about 3:36):

And third, that is so funny about Kool and the Gang! Love them! haha:cool1:

OMG!!! That's so it!! :thumbsup2 I never even thought of You Tube. :worship: :worship: :worship:

I think there might have been another version in the "World" because I seem to also remember having an odd (for a 3 year old) desire to visit PI... but I also could be mixing up Disney Special memories.

Too bad it's such a small clip of the song... otherwise I could totally use that.

You've totally made my night (and made me believe that I didn't just make this whole thing up :thumbsup2 ) I so watched the whole thing and was cracking up the whole time... Gawd, I :lovestruc the '80s!!

And P.S. no worries Kool and the Gang will be represented at the Reception as well - how could we not boogie to "Joanna"?

Glad to hear that was the video. I'll keep my eye (and ears) out for that song. :thumbsup2

Also glad to hear that you'll be having some Kool...that will be really cute (plus I love that song) ;) We will also be dancing to some Kool for our first dance (doing a surprise break out dance:dance3:  ) shh don't tell anyone :goodvibes

Thank you agian. I sent the link to both my parents and my mom confirmed that it was indeed the special in question. They did a song at Fort Wilderness, but at age 2, I couldn't sing "Play me some Mountian Music..." but I could run around and yell "Celebrate" which is why that one stuck, and why I had it in my head that there was something more...

Funny how none of us could remember this stuff until we saw it... But once the intro started, I remembered the string of songs, and my mom was able to say what some of the people were wearing without seeing them. I'm telling you I watched that thing 100s of times!

And I'm not going to lie... I'm home on a snow day today, and I watched the whole thing again on YouTube!

I love your super-secret use of Kool! My lips are sealed :cool2:

Sadly, now you've started a new obsession, and I'm off to YouTube to find that Toally Minnie special with Elton John.... (I need a life :rolleyes1 )

Don't worry big sis! Your little sis is on the case and in charge of the music for the big day! (you promised! ^_^')

You will be forced to walk down the aisle to Alabama's Celebrate and walk back UP the aisle to our favorite Toatally Minnie "Achy Breaky Heart"

Bwahahahaha!

Yes you are in charge of music, but

No... it was Totally Minnie "Don't go Breaking my heart" (with Elton John) not Achy Breaky - geeze - get it right! :rotfl:

I see... actually I just watched the whole thing on YouTube (because for some reason I think I have that kind of time... >_<) and I don't think I remember it as well you do ^_^' I did remember the Elton John part but the rest of it... *woosh*

I'm still looking for Alabama though... I may have to go to my secret reserves (aka enlisting the help of the bf).

But for the record... Totally Minnie was completely f'd up ^_^'
