Okay.... I had this great idea, but now I'm at a loss, so I'm hoping that someone might be able to help me... or at least smile at this story...
So does anyone else remember those 1980's disney specials - you know before they aquired ABC... there'd be "tours" of the parks, and performances by artists at PI, and all that jazz... Admit it liked 'em too!
Well does anyone have any idea as to how I could find a song that was preformed at on one of those specials (guess circa 1985 or '86)??
Here's the story... When I was very little, 2 or 3, my parents were getting me ready for my first trip to Disney. To get me excited, they taped a few of these specials for me, and they became kiddie crack - I watched them over and over and over... In my favorite special, the band Alabama preformed the song "Celebrate." Perfect for getting me in the mood for Disney. So, the day finally arrived - we were at Disney world and I got to do all the things that I had seen on the special, and a Disney addict was born.
So about 3/4 of the way into the trip, my dad turns to me and says "Okay Joanna, we've been on Dumbo, and Peter Pan, and seen the Castle. We've done everything you wanted to do, right?"
Well I looked at him with my big 3 year old eyes and said "No, daddy, I haven't seen Alabama yet!"
My dad couldn't bring himself to disapoint me, and my mom was laughing at him like "how you gonna get out of this one, buddy" so he did what any good father would do -- he lied to me
We were strolling the streets of Frontierland, when a group of Cowboy-hat wearing, fiddle toating, street preformers came into sight.... My dad exclaims "Joanna - look Alabama!!" being 3 and all, I believed him and he somehow got this group to sing celebrate and take their picture with me.
So post-trip, for months, I went around showing people the picture of when I met Alabama... I went through this phase where people thought I was real special, cuz I was CONVINCED it was Alabama.
So over the years, the story became a bit of family lore... always with me getting laughed at
until a few years ago, when Alabama was on their farewell tour, and a local radio station had a contest to see who had the best Alabama story... so I entered and WON 6th row tickets!! So I took my dad to an Alabama concert - where we both realized that we don't really like Alabama
but it made for a really good story.
So now, he's been joking that he should walk me down the isle to "Celebrate"
I don't think I'll go that far, but it would be SO funny if I could find the Alabama version of the song to play at some point during the reception. Sort of a fitting tribute to a great dad - even if he does lie like a rug
I've tried the usual Itunes and a couple other sites, but I'll admit, I'm sorta clueless when it comes to finding stuff like this... Plus I have no idea if it was every actually recorded, or if it was just preformed live that one time... Anyone have any suggestions?
I could always go with the Kool and the Gang version, since my dad swears that their song, Joanna, was the inspiration for my name (the big Disco freaks that they are
) Still more lies... but not nearly as cute
