I need advice. Should I push the issue or leave it alone?
I made ressies at the Poly and requested the Samoa building, pool view then paid for our stay in full. Under the advice of the Tiki Man I just called and tried to give a second choice of the Raratonga with a pool view because the Samoa was a small building. The CM I spoke to said what I Paid for was a garden view and there would be an upgrade to a pool view. I explained to the CM that I felt this was there problem because when I made my reservation I explained what I wanted, they gave me a price and I paid for it in full. She then put on the phone with her manager that told me she didn’t appreciate me trying to run circles around them. I asked Her to read my request and sure enough it said ground floor, Samoa building, pool view. I then explained to her that I was no deadbeat. Last year my family spent 17 days at the Poly in Concierge and I had no intension of pulling the wool over any ones eyes and if they had an upgrade I would be happy to pay the difference. No upgrades were available. The Bottom Line Is this. I am a contractor when I quote a price to a client I stick by it, even if I loose money. She even read that the Samoa pool view was my request from the get go.
Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.

Have any of you encountered this and if so what did you do? If anyone of you has a number or someone I could call higher on the reservation line I would love to have it.
Sincerely

At the Poly there are Garden Views and Lagoon Views, no pool views.

A view of the pool would be a request, and would not be guaranteed.

You most likely paid for a garden view, and the CM hopefully noted the request for a view of the pool, but you cannot specifically pay for and reserve a view of the pool.

The CM was wrong. There are no pool view pricing for the Poly. There is lagoon and garden. Raratonga is most definitely a garden view building. I have stayed in that building 5 times and every one was a garden view room. I really don't take anything the CMs at CRO serious anyway as most no nothing about the actual resorts. Many that I have spoken to have yet to go to WDW! I would call back and get a different CM and have your second choice noted on your reservation. I have a GV room booked and they have my 1st choice, Samoa, and my second choice, Raratonga, noted. Both are requests for pool views.

At the Polynesian, the room categories are Garden View, Lagoon View, Concierge Garden View and Concierge Lagoon View. There's not a pool view category.

It sounds like what you have reserved and paid for is a Garden View room. That's what they are committed to provide for you.

You have *requested* that your Garden View room be in a specific building and face the pool. Those are only requests, and I'm sure that they will try to accommodate those requests if rooms that match those requests happen to be available at the time you check in. But they will not commit to that in advance.

There's nothing here to escalate or continue to call about- you have a reservation for a Garden View room, and they will try to accommodate your location requests at check in if possible. They won't be able to promise you a specific room, building or location in advance.

Some years ago, there was a "pool view" designation at the Polynesian which was more expensive than garden but less than lagoon. But as everyone has noted that is no longer the case.

If it were me, I'd leave it alone. The room assigner at the Polynesian will do her/his best to meet your requests. But wherever you end up, you'll probably find some magic. One of my favorite things about reading Polynesian posts is that almost everyone thinks that the longhouse that they have stayed at is absolutely the best.;)

We loved the Poly but didn't care for the Niue longhouse. Guess there is always one nut, eh?

To all that replied so far Thankyou
To Skiwee, Thanks for your advice and enjoy your trip!. I hope maybe next year we can meet again. Say Hello to your Darling Daughters for us. Send us a PM so we can chat, I forgot your address.

LOL Jean, but that is why I said almost everyone. We've never stayed in that longhouse but I must admit it does not appeal to me either. Don't quite know why as it certainly has a great location. Perhaps it feels a little closed in compared to the others??? We have had about 30 vacations at the Polynesian and in all those stays have only been in 3 longhouses. I think that those 3 are the best!:teeth:

As everyone has advised you, there is no PV at the Poly.

In fact, our last three stays at the Poly were all GV. We asked for and received the Samoa Building, Ground Floor, looking at the Volcano Pool all three times!::yes::

We love this location...can you tell?;)

As others have mentioned there was other view categories years ago but since the mid 90s there have only been garden and lagoon view for standard rooms. The pool view is considered a garden view so I am not sure who you talked to but I would get a name.

At first I thought this was a Polynesian CM telling you this. Now that I read it better I see it was CRO than I am not surprised at the incorrect information. Every day I read something that they said that is wrong. I know it is hard to know every resort but to get upset at you when you are correct is crazy.

Aloha

Steve

Well I emailed the Polynesian to make sure nothing changed and it has not. I just like to make sure the info I give you is correct. Here is what they said about views.

“Our resort has had the same room categories for years now, standard garden, standard lagoon, Concierge garden and Concierge lagoon. Nothing has changed and from what we are seeing for 2005, the room categories are the same as well. The standard garden views include rooms that overlook garden and landscape as well as rooms that overlook the pools and marina depending on which building, and which side of the building, you're on. The standard lagoon view is, of course, the rooms that have a lagoon view. Samoa and Tokelau have standard garden view rooms. If the guest was checking on different dates for their stay, the rates change depending on what season we're in and sometimes just changing an arrival date by one day can change the rate of the reservation if it falls in the new season. If the guest was speaking with someone other than a Polynesian cast member, such as the hotel operator or the reservation center, the cast member may have been thinking of another resort property that has different rates for the different views. These are only some of the reasons the guest may have been given this information. I would hope all the cast members that work the phones in our resort directly would not have given incorrect information.”

Dear Tikiman
Thank you for responding to my call for help. I called the CRO again last night. This time I spoke to a very pleasant CM. I had her check on my previous requests of Samoa Building and it had not been removed She then added our second choice of the Raratonga building. There was no problem at all. This was a classic case of a Cm and her manager not knowing what they were talking about.
Thanks again to all that responded to my Post
