OBB/ Placeholder question

On my last cruise I booked a placeholder onboard. I do have a reservation number.
It might be very busy calling Dcl this week. I want to book an early 2018 cruise and use my placeholder benefits without calling. Is that possible? Or is it only possible to call DCL. The cast member told me I need to call, but I didn't ask further. Want to know if there are other options.
For instance:Can I book a cruise online myself and within 30 days transfer it to a TA by email and inform them about the new booking number and the placeholder reservation number?
Can I book online and call DCL when it is less busy next month or so.

To convert a placeholder to an actual cruise date, you have to call. Can't do it online.

If you book a reservation yourself, and then transfer it to a TA, many TAs cut the OBC they give on transferred bookings.
