There has been an enormous loss of jobs in Obama's first month in office and several market reversals, and 76 percent of those surveyed in an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll think the economy will get worse. But the poll still shows President Obama with 60 percent approval and 67 percent favorability ratings. 41 percent think the country's headed in the right direction -- not great, but up from 26 percent in January. The Republican Party, in contrast, finds its favorability "at an all-time low."

According to the poll, part of the reason why Obama's numbers remain high despite these economic concerns is that the public doesn't blame the president for the current state of the economy. Eighty-four percent say this is an economy Obama inherited, and two-thirds of those people think he has at least a year before he's responsible for it.

Also, the public overwhelmingly believes the GOP's opposition to Obama's policies and programs is based on politics: 56 percent say they're trying to gain political advantage, versus 30 percent who say they're standing up for their principles.

Finally, Americans don't seem to have confidence in the Republican Party when it comes to the economy. By a 48-20 percent margin, they think the Democratic Party would do a better job of getting the country out of the recession.

I really wonder where they find these people that they poll :confused3 I don't think I have heard a single person (in person) state that they are happy about Obama or his policies, unless you count my MIL who just says "give him a chance" but complains about every policy she hears about that has come about in the past 2 months :headache:

I am a bit confused by the title of your thread. His poll numbers have dropped since the inauguration so how could his favorability rating be at an all time high? Furthermore, his unfavorability ratings are increasing in other polls. Glad you like him!

That was an interesting article.
Thanks for sharing.

Just an FYI;

The title of the article is:

Poll: Obama's rating at all-time high
NBC/WSJ poll shows gap between popularity of president and his policies

Quotes:

Despite the country's struggling economy and vocal opposition to some of his policies, President Obama's favorability rating is at an all-time high. Two-thirds feel hopeful about his leadership and six in 10 approve of the job he's doing in the White House.<snip>

By comparison, the Republican Party — which resisted Obama's recently passed stimulus plan and has criticized the spending in his budget — finds its favorability at an all-time low. It also receives most of the blame for the current partisanship in Washington and trails the Democrats by nearly 30 percentage points on the question of which party could best lead the nation out of recession.

I heard on the news last night that the only other president with higher approval ratings at this point in office was Jimmy Carter.:lmao:

I would like to meet the people they polled. Were they living under a rock?

They could have polled my friends, most of my family (except the fundie cousins) and the folks I volunteered with-we're all pretty happy! :cool1:

I am very pleased so far. Two or three things I did not agree with.

Obviously, their vetting process needs a little work....:scared: It would be cool if all those tax issues led to audits of ALL congress members wouldn't it though?

I don't know what someone was drinking here, but nothing could be further from the truth!

Also, the economic situation sits squarely on the shoulders of the DEMOCRATIC Congress during the Bush Administration. They forced the banks to provide loans to people they knew could not afford them nor pay them back just because they mandated everyone deserved a home. The result is what we have today!

I am very happy with his performance so far. Our country has a long way to crawl back up, but we will do it! All of my friends are happy also. Well, except for a few Piney relatives. :goodvibes

Yeah -- The only direction he can go is DOWN, unless of course he gets his halo and disciples. Ooops wait... Disciples already there - he just needs the halo...:rotfl2: :cool1:

Hmmmmmm - 3 out of 4 congresses during Bush were Republican. But I guess you're right, the Republicans have no blame here - they never did a thing did they?

That's hysterical and apropos! :lmao: How the "mighty" will fall!

I don't know who these people are that they poll either. No one that I know is at all impressed with Obama (to put it mildly).
