BBC News said:
Senator Barack Obama is taking the first step towards a White House run, raising the possibility the US will get its first black president.

Mr Obama, a Democrat, said on his website he had formed an exploratory committee, which would allow him to raise money and hire staff for the run.

He is one of his party's rising stars, having electrified the 2004 Democratic convention with a powerful speech.

He opposed the war in Iraq and has a solidly liberal Senate voting record.

From the little I've seen of him, I like the man.

He's the only one I have any interest in thus far.

I have liked what I have heard him say in his speeches.. I will be watching to see what he has to say in the future and then make a decision if he decides to run..

I happy to say that he is my senator. My republican parents are even talking about voting for him for president. :lmao: Of course, Oprah loves him, so that has got to help!

I like him, but think he needs more seasoning. I could see him as VP for a couple of terms.

I really enjoyed his last book "The Audacity of Hope." He seems to really be playing for the middle ground and I think he has some very good ideas on how to handle the economy and our oil dependence. But I think he is really going to get beat up for his lack of experience and his approach to the Iraq war.

It will be very interesting to see how it plays out. I will just be happy if Hillary doesn't get the nomination.

When I first saw your title, I thought it said 'Ohana - the one to watch?

:lmao:

I kept wondering what we should watch at 'Ohana... :rotfl:

As for Obama, he seems nice enough to me. Maybe a bit young, but seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

Hillary Clinton really isn't that popular, is she? I guess she has some clout from the fact that she's, well, a she, but I don't see her winning outright.

Inexperience aside, he is intellegent and articulate. I wonder about his chances for the nomination, though. Depends on who else tosses his/her hat in the ring. I like him and I wouldn't have much trepidation supporting him if he gets the nod.

It would be refreshing to have an intelligent and articulate President for a while. I really was blown away by Obama when I first heard him speak at the Dem. National Convention, and have been hoping he'd run in this election.

I don't hate Hilary, I just don't have much confidence in her ability to get elected.

What I think will be interesting is to watch the Hillary attack machine go after him. Wasn't she already behind digging up something about cocaine use or something. She's probably just getting started.

Oh, this is so true. Can he pronounce "nuclear" correctly?

I think I remember that Jimmy Carter couldn't pronounce it either. Neither can half the people I hear on the radio. There's lots of other things that could be brought up to make this point.

I don't know enough about Obama to make any decisions about him one way or the other.

He speaks and writes very well and is definitely intelligent. I don't believe in just jumping on the bandwagon. I need to get to know more about where he stands on the different issues first. I actually think that there are several very qualified people who have either announced their candidacy or will announce for both parties. Hopefully, each candidate will have a chance to articulate their views and the best candidate for each party will be selected. I'd like to have a better choice of candidates than we did in the 2004 election.

Not really. The drug abuse was something he wrote about in one of his books. He owns up to it, it was just getting some press time.

I would vote for him.

Being female, I'd like to be open minded to electing the first female president. However, I have always found Hilary Clinton to be a panderer which I don't like. Plus, I have never gotten over the fact that she took the White House furniture when she left the place. I found it tacky despite liking the job that Bill Clinton did as President and despite being a democrat at the time.

All that said, she has done an excellent job at winning over the hearts and minds of New Yorkers - even people who did not like her when she began as NY Senator. That says a lot and I will be interested in how she does in the debates.

On principle I just can't support us going Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton. Out of 300 million people in this country there has to be people outside of those two families capable of running this country. Or are we really turning into an elective monarchy?

There's no way anyone Obama will be elected as President any time soon. Not to mention he is a person of color. The combination of the two makes him un-electable for President. Sad but true. Absolutely no way this country is read for President Obama.

Ain't that the truth! Bring in some new blood - I'm tired of the same ideas.

Based on what exactly? Most people I talk to could care less about his skin color and more about the man he is. Sure there is some concern over how much exeperience he has in politics, but for the most part people like him. In fact people I've disagreed with politically for awhile now seem to like him as well.
