As a person who voted for Obama, I believe strongly in his leadership, but this cemented it:
I've always said there is a need for corporate responsibility to the workers and the community. My company made a decision to keep our offices in the middle of our downtown. If we left (as some other companies have), we would have caused a great amount of financial distress to the area businesses as over 1,000 employees moved to an office in the suburbs. This would have also caused other issues including yet another vacant building in the middle of a city who is trying to recover from serious set backs made years ago.
Instead we negotiated a fair lease while being responsible to the community we call home. Like I said, other companies didn't choose to the same and only saw the bottom line. There is more to success then money.
CNN said:...Obama said he hoped his presidency will help "usher in...a return to an ethic of responsibility. That if you're placed in a position of power, then you've got responsibilities to your workers. You've got a responsibility to your community. Your shareholders."
He added: "And that's true...for members of Congress, that's true for the president, that's true for cabinet members, that's true for parents.
"I want all of us to start thinking a little bit more, not just about what's good for me, but let's start thinking about what's good for our children, what's good for our country. The more we do that, the better off we're going to be," he said.
