Oak Trail Golf Course

It's a great time! Here's what happened to me. We arrived at our tee time and learned that they were doing something to the other courses, so all golfers were moved to Oak Trail. I didn't see a problem with it. Until I found myself allowing a lot of really good golfing groups to go ahead of me. It was a nice, 6 am tee-time, too! I'm so happy I went early, I couldn't imagine what would happen later.

I did get a free ride over to the center and back to the Contemporary. I came back soaked from the morning dew. There will be animals out there in the bushes (large ones) so beware. We did come across an alligator and moved on to the next hole.

It was great exercise, and wiped me out for the day (we already planned a character breakfast after and a pool day).

If you golf in the summer and have an early morning tee time, wear shoes that you don't mind getting soaked and/or covered in mud.

All in all, renting clubs (and I rented their shoes, thank god!) it was just under $100 for two adults.

The clubs were Taylormade (which tailspins-ed into me buying some after using them there).

Thanks!

We came across alligators (as mentioned), deer, a turtle (which was super cool).
I should mention that I golfed there a few years back (I believe it was 2010 or 2011). The alligator was a huge awakening. There was no second thinking about hightailing it from the back hole to the next. He could have our golf balls. hehe

While my father was on the phone with a CM about club rental, he was told Oak Trail reopens August 27, 2018. I can find nothing, literally nothing, on the internet about any closure or refurbishment of this course. Anyone out there know of something?

I played with my then 8 year old this past December. We have Platinum Plus Annual Passes, and Oak Trail is included with that pass. We traveled with our clubs so I don't recall the cost but I think it is in the $35 range(at least for DVC members). If I am not mistaken kids clubs are free of charge to rent. My son is not new to golf and we played in the early afternoon and we did not have anyone pushing us the entire day. I do not recall there being much shade, we did see a lot of wildlife like turkey, deer, turtles, birds, etc. It was a great time overall and I'm sure we'll play there again someday, although I see they added Foot Golf since we were there. I'm not sure how that will mess with the course. On our last trip we did the Sunset 9 special at the Lake Buena Vista Course. We'll probably try Palm or Magnolia next.

We last did this in 2014, did the course more than once. Once I saw the clubs for rent (they were $15 then), never again will I pack our clubs & haul them down, too much space. We saw them unpacking sets for people that shipped theirs down. We saw deer on the course & gators in the water (babies, so beware the mother). We taught our kids to make noise & swing a club back & forth when walking slowly in tall grass to give wildlife a chance to split. Don't want to catch any off guard. I did read they've added footgolf & we've done that locally, not sure we'd do it on a high walking vacation though, we had sore thighs & sore hips in the group & several switching kicking sides to get a break. We were pretty beat up from footgolf.

We have done this a few times in August. it’s really hard to get kids up and out early enough to beat the heat in the mornings. So this time (July) we are going to try to go as late in the evening as possible, past peak afternoon heat or at least a little less direct/intense sun. Anyone have advice as to whether afternoon thunderstorms likely to be a big issue if we start at 6:40 pm? Law of averages of course—I know the weather is unpredictable.

We generally like the course but find the flow a little disjointed/confusing. I forget which two holes but there’s one place where we typically get lost, cant find the next hole and end up skipping a hole trying to keep pace. Could use better signage. Other than that we love playing there.
