Has anyone stayed here? We have two condos booked here for Nov 27-Dec 5/08

Bump. We're also looking into this resort. GREAT reviews on tripadvisor. Anyone have any first-hand experience?

We stayed there last December and it was HORRIBLE! I would not stay there for free! We are not lodging "snobs" by any stretch, but we do like for a place to be clean! This property was filthy and over run with a pack of stray cats (literally dozens of them). From what I understand, this used to be an apartment complex that was converted and it really needs a lot of work. There are so many other places to stay for around the same amount of money. Avoid this place like the plague! HTH

Here is a copy of my review from last December:

Oak Plantation Resort - COMPLETE DISASTER!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We just stayed at the Oak Plantation Resort 12/19 - 12/22 and it was a complete disaster! The property is in desperate need of an overhaul. We were first shown villa #1407 and all that was missing was a tape outline of a dead body. The carpet was filthy and the countertops had burns down to the wood, the refrigerator was dirty and the unit needed a new stove. We immediately went back to the front desk and requested a new room (the staff at the front desk was wonderful, it isn't fair that they have to represent this disgusting place!). We were then assigned room #209 and while it was better than the other unit, it was only marginally so. This unit had dust "webs" hanging from the vents, the artificial plants had dust caked on them, the tile floors in the bathrooms were filthy, there were no washcloths or hand towels in the unit and some of the cookware was missing, cob webs and dead bugs were all over the unit. GROSS!!! We were promised a VIP cleaning the 2nd day of our stay and it didn't happen because they were out of towels. What do towels have to do with vacuming, dusting, sweeping and mopping?? There are also DOZENS of wild cats running around the property. It feels as if you are staying in the slums. There are so many other nice properties out there for around the same money. Please do not waste your time or money, go stay somewhere else! I will say that management did try to make things up to us but when you are on vacation, you should not have to waste 5 plus hours trying to get your room up to par.

Steph

I wonder if there's been new management or something since then? Most of the reviews from the last 6 mos seem very positive! Anyone else out there have any experience like this or otherwise?

Honestly it had nowhere to go but up! ;) I have not looked into it at all since we stayed there last December. It really was horrible then, I mean horrible! Hopefully they did get some new management in there and turned things around. Because we live in Florida, we are able to go to Orlando several times a year for long week-ends instead of one long vacation. I remember commenting to my husband and the manager that I really felt sorry for people that save and plan for years to only get there and find they have rented a dump. I have found Trip Advisor to be pretty accurate for the most part, so maybe things have changed.

It would be really nice to hear from a fellow diser that has stayed there recently. Anyone out there?

i stayed there back in 2001. the unit we had wasnt to bad. it was clean and the full kitchen was nice. we were there the first week of feb so for only paying aroung 60 or 70 a night i would say it was worth it. guess it just depends on with room you get. good luck

I was there in June of this year. I had a 2 bedroom that after trying 4 units, got a good one. The first 2 had beds where the matress were dirty and torn. Yes, I pulled the sheets to look, I always check for bed bugs ever since I was bitten at Disney's Pop Centry. The 3rd unit was beautiful but on the second floor and with the chance of my husband joining me and his bum knee, I didn't think it would work. So the 4 unit was a good one. It was near the pool and I do think it was renovated. They are in the process of renovating. The grounds are nice, clean and the staff were friendly. I do have to say that I did ask for kitchen towels on my first night 3 times and never got them, the entire 7 night stay. I just went into the gym and took them from there...:lmao: If you get a unit by the pool, you will have the intenet in the room, if not, you will have to use the internet cafe or the pool side internet.
I will tell you, the place is FAR FAR FAR from everything. I felt like I was in another town. It isn't in the greatest part of town either. :scared1: I did not like going back to the unit at night. There is a Wal-Mart not too far from there & a mini strip mall. I heard a lot of police cars at night.
Would I stay there again... no, I would not. Was it clean? Like I said, after 4 units, yes. They do have entertainment pool side, free coffee and cookies in the lobb all day & free soda & snacks at the internet cafe, but bring your own laptop there. The cafe had one computer for adults and one for kids...
I have pictures of the unit if you would like to see them...

I would love pics! But I admit, after reading your review, I'm re-thinking my decision. Man, it's so hard deciding on an offsite....

We stayed at Oak Plantation last year for 20 minutes. As we were climbing the stairs to our very tiny one bedroom condo, which smelled like they sprayed a can of lysol in the room just before we arrived,, the fumes were burning my eyes and throat! We decided to go sit on the veranda overlooking the basketball courts to get some fresh air. As we were sitting there a plane flew over our heads, It shook the veranda.. It looked like it was only 40 feet above my head.. we decided after the third plane in a span of 10 minutes flew over our heads that any where would be better than this. We called Howard Johnsons and stayed there for our last 2 days of vacation. The only redeeming thing I can say about this "resort" is that they refunded our money.

There is a small airport down the road from there. I did not notice or hear any planes while I was there. I was on the first floor, maybe that was the difference. I was also by the pool and I could hear music from there, so that may have drowned out the planes :confused3 I didn't mind the music :goodvibes I was in the bldg on the side of the pool near between the little store, gym/tennnis courts & I was pool side.

Wow, I had a much better impression after staying at Oak Plantation about 3 years ago. We got a one bedroom, which was a little cramped (but that was in comparison to a two bedroom we stayed in at Cypress Pointe Villas), but clean and in good repair. I thought the grounds were very pretty and well kept, and never noticed any cats, just waterfowl at the small lake. We enjoyed the poolside movie and thought the staff was friendly and helpful. The only downside was that it was a little farther to the WDW parks, although getting to Seaworld was pretty close. And we like staying closer to Downtown Disney. We actually considered returning afterwards, but found better deals elsewhere. But I placed it on par with Cypress Pointe Resort (maybe not the villas---we stayed at both) It's amazing how different people's experiences can be at the same place!

We stayed there a few years ago and if you don't mind being awaken at 7:30 a.m. daily by the noise of the rolling metal laundry carts then this is the place for you. We complained they moved us but it was the same thing for 7 days straight like clock work when the 7:00 shift starts so to the noisy carts being rolled across the pavement. UGH.
Oh one more thing we had ants all over the place in the first condo they put us in.
And the timeshare presentation is high pressured.
