We have never stayed off-site before and are planning a trip this December 30-January 6 for a family of five. It is so much less expensive (and spacious) for us to rent a house and I'm finding a great deal at Oak Island Cove on VRBO but I don't know much about the community. It seems close by and the house has a pool...I just wanted to see if anyone had any personal experience staying there.

We stayed there in Oct/Nov last year. It's a small community of pool homes and as close as you can get to the AK side of Disney. We always stay in this general area so have driven by it hundreds of times. We like the area and have had no problems.

Thank you! The house we are interested in is so affordable and looks really nice in the pictures. What about the drive, specifically to MK? I understand it's close to AK, but is it a long way to MK or the other parks? Are there other areas where homes are available to rent that would be more convenient to all the parks? Everything I've been able to find so far is close to AK off of 192.

You won't find any that are closer because short term rentals aren't allowed in Orange County. These subdivisions just off 192 are in Osceola County. You can find some condo resorts in Orange County that are closer but not pool homes. If you allow 45 min for MK it will get you right into Main St. USA. It isn't the distance, it's the procedure for parking, taking a tram then the monorail etc for MK that takes the time. DHS is about 10 min via World Dr. and Epcot is about 15 min. All except MK are pretty quick and easy to get to. Here's a map that will show you where Oak Island is located in comparison to the Disney parks. Subdivisions / Hotels have blue markers, Disney is pink and some restaurants are marked with red. Shopping has icons. Oak Island is blue marker #14 and the pink markers are Disney.
