O/T Facebook Vent

I have a relative who post constantly. She post constant status check ins, medical drama, and bible verses. I am all for the bible, but please do not post 12 verse in a 5 minute span. :sad2:

You can't control what people post BUT you can easily hide them so you don't have to read it :)

I have a couple of, game playing, fb buddies, who are on my news feed, that post pics of abused animals that make you want to puck!! I have to hide all those pics!!!

Have one friend who is passionate about his political views, but I can't take it!! I just had to all his posts.

I need to check a post I got yesterday, about calling 112 on your cell phone, if your being follow by police and you aren't going to stop until you get to a safe place? the number 112 is to a dispatcher who can help you??

Look up on Snopes.com, in America, Therefore, you are advised to dial 9-1-1 to report emergencies, especially from a cellular phone.

I got that 112 thing too. I don't think it's true and I believe I disproved it at one point. Also the if someone steals your ATM card give them
The pin backwards and when they enter the pin backwards it automatically lets the bank and
Police know that your card was stolen. Or something silly along those lines. NOT TRUE.

I usually just go about my day when these things show up on my newsfeed. Sometimes if its a missing child I will google the child's name and the post the link showing that said child was taken and returned in 1995. Lol

I don't bother to try to set them right. I just read, and move on.

Yes but it is my sister. We just finished World War 3 last year. Would like to wait another year before I start World War 4 with her.

She doesn't know if you hid her

If she tags you, you'll still get the alert and can look at the post. If she brings up something say "oh, I must of missed that - did Facebook change the feed again?, all of a sudden I'm not seeing things I used to."

There are a few friends I've hid because I'm tired of the same political nonsense from them - and frankly, it doesn't matter if I politically agree or not. My favorite facebook poster post once a day - maybe twice - or less and post primairly about themselves - they only post links when its something pretty special (I can go look up lolcats and xkcd myself).

Facebook should be a huge cocktail party - with cocktail party rules - no religion, no politics, and no nasty gossip, and no TMI - you really don't know who is reading your posts.

I am SO not an alarmist. I usually don't bother reading them. Once I "Snoped" one of them and it was only partially true. :confused3

And this my friends, is why I do not have facebook. I think the one that bothers me the most is the alarming narcissistic trend to post photo after photo of ones life in an attempt to make it appear perfect. I don't mean a few "here's the baby and the dog" photos. I mean hundreds and hundreds of perfectly posed shots, with perfect make up, perfect hair and perfect kids in some perfect locale... 30 times a day. How much life are you actually LIVING if you need to be updating the world about where you are and how perfect it is 20 times a day?:confused3

And the drama? Ack. I am very active on another board that deals with relationships. You would not believe how many daily posts there are about some drama that played out on Facebook. It's just so..high school.

16 year old dd has it, and I swear there's less drama and posing from some of these teen girls than there is from full grown adults I know. Why bother?

It would be nice to have for Dis planning, but that's kind of what I come here for. And it would be nice to have for some coupons and contests but I'l live.
As far as keeping up with people? I do keep up with the people I want to keep up with. And if you haven't heard from me in 5 years.. well there's a reason.

My other pet peeve or peeves are all the political junk some of my family constantly posts. That and all the fattening recipes well-meaning people love to share. Why can't they find something not loaded with cheese, bacon and potatoes? FB should be for keeping in touch with friends and family you don't get to see very often, not to air your political views. At least that's the way I look at it.

I keep my politics off Facebook and block those who post stupid junk. I don't mind a good political discussion at all, but I hate the half truth junk that gets posted. They are no better then political ads on TV!

As for the recipes... I have no issues with that. I believe in 80-20 when it comes to my diet (though not today because I am trying to get ANYTHING to look good enough to eat with the meds I am on). So I still make those "naughty" recipes rarely.

I think of it as this. I can choose what I see and, unless it is actually offensive to me, I just shrug my shoulders and move on. People can post whatever they want. I don't see Facebook as only being a platform for keeping up with friends and family. I also see it as a why to share what you like and how you feel.

Chronic problem on FB, MySpace, email, and.......no flames please, once in a while on the DIS.

I have linked snopes on these boards more then once. Sadly.

This! But now I have family mass texting everyone pictures of their children doing random stuff (watching TV with the dog, folding clothes, and so on). Drives me nuts! I guess they aren't getting much reaction to it on FB!

I love this analogy! Now if everyone could just stick to it! :rotfl2:

I do agree that it seems to be most active by the "look at me and my perfect life" crowd. You just have to remember that no ones life is perfect, despite the pictures and Bible verses that they post.

I've blocked so many people that now when I get notifications of so and so's birthday is this week I go "who's that" and then realize that I have blocked them. I suppose that means I need to do a little cleaning.
