We have been invited to a birthday party for a family friends 1 year old daughter. They have booked a "hall" and everything for this, and I have no idea what to get her/them. We have only seen the baby on occasion in town and that sort of thing....we were friends with the baby's grandma who passed away this year.
Any suggestions for what we could get this child or the parents? My kids are 15 and 11 and I have no recollection of what a 1 year old needs.
:confused3

Canada Post retailers have some great coin sets for babies.....you could get him/her one of the sets for 2009 that includes an uncirculated penny, nickle, dime, fifty-cent piece, loonie, toonie and special quarter (it has a teddy bear on it, I think). The sets are only $20 and make a great gift. If you wanted, you could get the baby a 2008 set (for the year he/she was born) rather than the 2009 set.....I know our local retailers carry prior years as well as the current one.

My son was given a set on his birth from a family friend, and I thought it was a wonderful idea. I just gave one of the sets to the granddaughter of my admin assistant at work at her baby shower, and it was a huge hit with the new mom!

Great idea .... really a good idea.
I am going to the post office tomorrow to see about that, and I can always get some small toy to put with it.
Thanks!!!

Speaking as a mother of a young one, most 1 yr olds, boy or girl, are really into "In The Night Garden" or "The Wonder Pets". You couldn't go wrong w/ either of those. Plus you can buy something from either of these in every price range.

As a Mom of 3 my favorite present to give or recieve is books, either a collection of classics like Goodnight Moon, Brown Bear Brown Bear, etc. Or one hardcover bigger book.

Good luck shopping.

My son got a lot of the Fisher Price Little People sets for his first birthday. He loves them and they come in all different price ranges.

I have to agree!! I love giving books as a present. Especially the Disney hard covered ones. We write the child's name in and year and who it was from.

Thanks for all the great ideas. I did go to the post office and couldn't get any 2008 sets which is what I really wanted. I could've gotten a birthday quarter that came with a card for 10 bucks but have decided to get her a dolly I saw and have picked up a few books that my kids just loved when they were that age. I went and looked in the cupboard where I have kept the favourites and then went and bought those for her. I may pick up a couple of the little fisher price people also because I can see the draw for those also!
Thanks for the great ideas again, I can always get great suggestions here!
