We'd like to go to Vegas in May to celebrate DH's 40th birthday. I'm having a hard time convincing him he needs to PARTY, so I thought I'd try to find some good deals for hotel/flight packages.

Any tips on where I can look, besides expedia, selloffvacations?

Thanks so much!

We're going in July to celebrate my hubby's 40th! I have found that purchasing air and hotel separate is cheaper than a package and offers you greater flexibility. If you can fly out of the US (ie Buffalo) it is even cheaper. Check Jet Blue for flights to LV and you might find a cheap flight. If you can wait to go in the summer months, you will find amazing deals on hotels, especially if you go Sun-Thurs. If you sign up on the hotel's website to be on their mailing list, they will send you periodic updates on specials. We did book our flights this past Oct because we fly on points, but I have seen reasonable airfare out of Buffalo. I will wait until the summer promotions come out for cheap hotel rates. Good luck planning, and tell your husband that he won't regret going....we love it and have gone every year for the last 4 years. We can't get enough of that place!

By the way, his bday is also in May, but we are postponing the celebration until the summer to take advantage of the cheap hotel rates. We went in May one year, and although the temps were nice, it was certainly a lot more pricier than our summer stays. I don't mind the dry desert heat either....

The only thing I can tell you is to be extremely flexible with your dates. We just got back, and because I was able to be flexible, we saved tons of money. We just spent 4 nights with great air travel (arrived at 11am, and left Vegas at 6pm, so had pretty much 4.5 days there!), stayed at MGM (GREAT hotel!) and the cost was only $500/person. Booking one week later was an extra $300 per person.

I always start a search on a general travel site like expedia and work my way from there. It gives me an idea of how much I am going to be spending for the week, and I can also change my dates to give me a better idea of cost.

Hope this helps....Jo

Thanks so much for the tips!

I did find a pretty cheap fare for Jet Blue (flying out of Syracuse), but the hotels are expensive (unless we stay at a dive which we won't be doing...LOL). Great tip for siging up at the hotel websites - I never thought of that.

DH's birthday is actually in June, so maybe we should be going then? Is that considered summer?

We used to live in California and moved back to Ontario 2 years ago. While in CA, we lived 3 hours from Vegas and went there A LOT! We love it too. Dh still has friends in CA and family in WA, so we thought it would be a good place for everyone to meet up. DH is not wanting to spend the money, so I am trying to find deals to entice him with!

Have fun on your trip.....I don't have to tell you you will have a blast.

Hi Jo,
Thanks for the tip. We can be a little flexible with our dates (we own our own business) so that will help. I checked out Expedia but was shocked at the prices (nicer hotels on the strip were $250 per night and up). When we used to travel to Vegas from CA, we got rooms much cheaper than that! I will keep searching. Thanks for your help (and glad you had a great trip).

Do you have players cards from your past travels?

Call the hotels and quote your number and that will usually give you some kind of discount.

Flexability and weekdays will drive the price down.

Have stayed at the Aladdin (now Planet Hollywood I believe) and Luxor and enjoyed both hotels - and they are both probably a step below the cost of Caeser's and the like.

Enjoy!

We are going in April for DH's 50th.

Our stay at Paris is free because of past play:rolleyes1

Book your flight and room separate. Get a players card. At the end of your stay see if anything can be deducted from your total.

I did get an e-mail from Orleans(off strip but great shuttle service)- it was for 3 nights and entry into a slot tournament for $99 -not to bad.

Last year I would have said fly out of Buffalo but this year the rates are no so good so keep an eye on Toronto for sales.

I usually book Vegas, well the two trips I have taken, through expedia.ca or travelocity.ca

I found the best price for a hotel last time on the Luxor site itself. $85 a night.

Thanks so much for the tips!

.

The summer rates don't officially start until July 1st. I saved my email from Bellagio last year, and their summer promotion started July 1 - Sept 20, offering Lakeview rooms for $169 night if you go Sun - Thurs. It will be comparable this year too I'm sure. Most LV hotels will send out their summer promotions in June. We'll be booking our hotel room then.

Hope you make it out. Make sure you check out the tripadvisor website for the LV forums and you can get great tips and info there. It was on this forum that I found out Cirque du Soleil was having a special anniversary promotion and offered tickets to all their shows, except O, for $50!! We got amazing seats for LOVE with this promotion. You never know what great deals you can find, so just keep checking!

Great idea! I will look for those and see what I can find.

We've stayed at Excalibur, Caesar's, Mandalay Bay, Paris, The Venetian and Luxor. DH's favorite is Paris.
