O Em Gee, there are tons of jobs out there!

I have found that willingness to move makes it much easier to find a job, at least in my field which is I.T. My last two jobs required a 1,200 hundred mile move for each and I wouldn't mind doing it again if I found myself unemployed.

So even companies that are doing well right now are playing it conservatively. It makes it very tough for even qualified people to find full time work in high demand fields. ...
hahah, come work for Disney, Disney is hiring pretty crazy lately... stable job, but crappy pay... but hell of a lot of OT...

Yep. When DH had his contract position, they were approaching the time when every single other person in his office was about to be at the end of their contract, all at the same time. And the managers weren't doing anything about it! I personally don't htink doing the contract thing really is conservative, just because of that, and because it causes resentment. But I know that up here, that one big company kept getting in trouble for the way they were treating slightly more permanent employees and created this nonsense...

We were so glad to get back to a solid company (I would almost think our hubby's are at the same company, but I don't think amazon hit quite 140, but I could be wrong!).

I too wish jobs with good pay on everyone!

(I would almost think our hubby's are at the same company, but I don't think amazon hit quite 140, but I could be wrong!).

*laughs* You nailed it. Amazon was at 140 for over a month, but it dropped pretty substantially last week after the iPad was released. We've been watching really closely because DH got his stock bonus last week.... after the drop, of course. :rotfl2: (mostly because if I wasn't, I would be crying)

I got those same offers when I placed my resume through Ohio's job builder site and got tons of these offers with days of posting my resume. I was excited until I actually saw what kind of jobs these were and that they were not hourly wages but based on what you sold for the company. I did interview with one that looked promising as they did offer an hourly wage but after the interview I felt very uncomfortable about what I would be selling (it was really bad health insurance they wanted to sell to people who could not afford it). I kindly said no and am still looking to this day for something.

To the OP I hope you find something you are looking for and that it works out for you.

I got the same group of employers. They would hire the world if they didn't have to pay them...:surfweb:

That is the best advice to give. We made a big move from NE Ohio to Central KY, doubted the move, and it has been the best decision we ever made. It's tough taking the kid from Grandma's, making 2 house payments, and learning a whole new area, but you gotta go where the jobs are.

Totally OT but what in the world is the point of typing out O eM Gee?

OP I hope that these positions pan out for you, but please show a little compassion for people who aren't seeing the offers pouring in. I know you didn't mean to laugh at anyone's misfortune or imply that everyone should be able to find a job, but this can be a difficult topic.

Best of luck to everyone looking for positions and to all of us holding on to jobs that may not be around sometime soon.

As a PP said those are Sales jobs commisson no base pay so they can hire as many as they want.

I was wondering the same thing - that whole post confused me. The PP was talking about how her husband had a job.. and then the OP says "come to disney, they're hiring!" .. uhhh. okay?

I submitted a resume last night through Careerbuilders and so far, i received 8 job offerings so far, a few from really big companies(Farmers insurance, Prudential financial)... Still waiting on more!!! And this is just with a high school diploma with no degree. (still working on it!)

I guess the economy is getting better? GO GO GO!!!

Yep, there are a lot of jobs on those jobsites. I have been applying for them, and others for over a year now and still don't have a job. Get back to me when you actually GET one of those jobs.

It depends on what kind of job you are looking for at Disney. DH used to work for Disney and even looked there again this time when he wanted something perm, but they weren't hiring anyone in his position. They're not hiring anyone with my skills either.

This is true and much easier if you are single or have an adventurous mate. DH is always willing to move. He doesn't like actually physically moving, but he does enjoy living in new and different places. I on the other hand, do not want to move. So it did make it more difficult for him to find something perm here, but we were willing to wait it out for a bit.

Easy if you don't have kids, a house, etc. Selling our house would be a financial disaster for us right now. We have two kids, one in H.S. A move for him would be very upsetting (although you do what you gotta do...) For us to move cross-country, he'd have to be making a heck of a lot more than what he was making here.

How about you let us know how much money you make at any one of those jobs. They give ANYONE & EVERYONE those "offerings" (are you collecting in church?). Commissioned based sales = no outlay for those big companies.

WDW isn't hiring at all (well hardly at all). They're still in a hiring freeze. They are taking on the CP folks but not much else at this time unless there is a very specific need administratively that they cannot find in house. I see the OP is from DLR, though, so perhaps there are tons of jobs out there? Dunno but not in FL.

Yeah, it is easier for some then others but if it is the only, or even best option, it beats unemployment. Kids move, they survive. The selling of the home is the real hurdle but if the new job offers any relocation bonus hopefully it will cover the time it takes to sell.

I would recommend to anyone, even if they aren't gun-ho on moving, checking the willing to locate box on any application or resume submission. You can always turn down an offer but if you are not willing to consider it you won't even get the offer. Anything that makes you more employable the better IMO.

That's the position we're in. Though since we are moving to snow--I'm almost a bit...grateful that we have a house near the beach to run to in a sub-tropical climate.

DH has been in VA since Dec 1 and is facing his 3rd blizzard tomorrow. Unusual I guess--but not exactly the "warm" welcome, I was envisioning.:rotfl:

ETA: We cannot sell our house--but the alternative is much worse than hanging on to it and getting something meager wher we are going.

You are saying you got actual job offers from people who have never laid eyes on you? Why am I having trouble believing you?

Okay, obviously not actual job offers - and could y'all please leave the OP alone, it's a simple wording issue.

Having been out of work and in her/his exact position, I know they're e-mails indicating that the company has reviewed the OP's resume and feels they would be a good fit with the company, and who to contact to START the application process.

What the OP needs to know is, these jobs are for financial services sales - insurance and investments. They're ENTIRELY commission, no salary.

Definitely true in retail & restaurant biz - dh has worked both in managment & the only way they promote is if your willing to move. His company he's with now promoted him but he had to change locations because of the promotion (thank goodness it ended up being only a 25min drive )
