I don't think the cost comparison between the airplane and the car is very accurate as it seems to compare the cost of one airline ticket with one person driving. Most people who drive have more than one person in the car.

So, even if my family of three decided to drive and it did cost us $342, that would be for all three of us.

If we all three flew, it would be $750 according to their numbers.
