I am taking DD15 to Beauty and the Beast tomorrow eve in NYC. Even though we don't live that far, I have not been to the city in quite a while. For anyone who lives, works, or just gets into the city.....is there a decent place to get dinner before the theatre? (not Fridays, Applebys type places). We thought we would also go to the wax museum on 42nd street, and she wants to see where the ball drops on New Years Eve, but except for that.......I am clueless. We will be taking the train from NJ, and probably would want to stay in the area of the train station to the theatre on 46th street.
Thanks to anyone who has any hints.

I ate dinner at Ruby Foo's yesterday when I went to go see Wicked. It was awesome!

Virgil's and Spanky's are great BBQ places in that area and Carmine's has really good Italian.

The Hershey store is nearby - shopping at Roc Center. I think you can actually go to the "Top of the Roc" now and see some great panoramic view of the city.

The Disney store isn't THAT far of a walk - depending on the weather.

hope this helps!

There is a great restaurant called the Playwright, I believe it's on either 47th Street or 48th Street. Whenever we go to the city that's where we eat. If you go there try the Ebony and Ivory Cheesecake. Have a great time.

Great ideas......I will have to jot these down somewhere so I can sneak peeks at them.........I hate to look like a tourist in NYC, if you know what I mean.. :rolleyes1

Another vote for Virgils. Their biscuits and gravy and collard greens are out of this world! Yum! Very busy though. You really should have ressies.

My DD loves Ellen's Stardust Diner. It's a fun place for everyone!

If you like seafood Bubba Gump's Shrimp is good. It is also fun and has some great views of Times Square.

Or if you are really into a themed restaurant Jekyl and Hydes is good but it is slightly expensive and it is more uptown.

You could also check out the huge Toys R Us with the ferris wheel inside. You can go to the top of the Empire State Building. You get the best views from up there, but there is usually a line. Oh and don't forget the worlds largest store. The 34th Street Macys! On the top floors they still have the original wooden escelators.

We visited the Top of the Rock a couple of weeks ago. The view was great and the elevator ride up was neat with a glass ceiling. We really like Ellen's too, but the food isn't really that great. It's the atmosphere that is fun though. Bubba Gump's has good food and the Forrest Gump thing is cool.

Have fun :)
