Need help in choosing an upscale restaurant on either the upper east side or midtown east/west. Fancy, price not a problem, and some sort of entertainment, either music or piano bar and GOOD food. Nothing on 8th Ave or beyond. I have several dinners to go to and have ressies at DelFrisco's, and The View. Tavern on the Green is booked solid as I would have really wanted to go there. Either American (new/traditional) or Italian food. I've been to many, many great restaurants in the city, but, I need help with this one. Any suggestion, please....I'm stumped....If anyone tried BICE, V, or IAN, let me know if you enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere. Thanks in advance....

TAO - great place - Thai food or something like that! Really good!

Ruby Foos - another great asian place!

There is also a Ruth Chris and Smith and Wolensky around that area - both Steak Houses!

So many Italian places I would not know where to begin =)

Hope that helps a bit!

V is fantastic. So is Cafe Grey. I second TAO, and there is a Serafina in the area as well (Italian). I also like Nobu 57 and Redeye Grill.

Thank YOu - I could not remember the name Serafina!!!!! LOL!

We went to Fresco by Scotto last year and the food was really good. It is Italian and I think it is in that area. They appear on the food segments on the weekend Today show.
We had a blast at Ruby Foo, and excellent "southern" food at Jezebel.

I spend a lot of time on Chowhound. Post on their Manhattan board and you'll get expert advice.

Thanks for all these great suggestions. I know there are 1000's of great places in NY to eat, I just hate to be the one in charge of where to go. I eat everytype of foods and love to try new places, but, half of the people we're going with don't like French, Chinese,Japanese and alot of the other good foods out there. I will look into all of these great places you all mentioned and I'll post back where we'll going. Thanks again, I knew I could count on this group to help me out.....

an oldie but a goodie is Gramercy Tavern. I'll second Oceana. Sparks is a legendary steak house! If you could get in Daniel or Per se would be a slice of heaven.

downtown you could try tribeca grill or blue water grill.
