I am taking my a DCL cruise departing NYC in few weeks. I've done a search, but still have a few questions.

1- Does anyone know what time the port opens, what are the earliest PATs given? I'm cruising in a platinum stateroom, so we were not given a PAT. We'd like to arrive "early" to be part of boarding group 1, ask for possible upgrade, but we don't want to arrive before the doors open.

2- What is the port/process like out of NYC? Is the concierge/platinum clearly marked? Separate waiting area? We've only previously departed PC and Vancouver, and I'd like to know what to expect.

Thanks for the advice!!!

You might want to try finding your FB group for your cruise. I think the NY cruises have a lot of repeat cruisers and so you might get an answer faster there even though this is a wider base of people overall.

I posted this back in November: https://www.disboards.com/threads/nyc-cruises-2018-embarkation-time.3713809/#post-59924947

Platinum is seated with all non-concierge guests. We had arrived early enough to sit close to where they begin boarding, but everyone still crowds the entrance.

Thanks for the advice!!!

For our next cruise out of Port Canaveral, we are purposely taking DCL transport from our DVC resort to arrive after everyone else has boarded.

I'm in that group and we have a TON of newbies! I was surprised; it's a bunch of people's first cruise!

I've heard the earliest PAT in NYC is 11am.

I have cruised out of NYC 3 times. I always forget to check in when I can, so our port arrival times have been around noon or after.

All 3 times we have just enter the terminal and got on the ship. So, we spent very little time in the terminal. I kind of prefer that.

2 times we parked at port. Very easy, but pricey. One time we parked over in Brooklyn by my husband’s law office and took an Uber.

We live in NJ, so no planes or trains for us, just our automobile.

If you do a search for NYC cruises you will probably find your answer.

Good luck and happy cruising.

Sorry about that, on mine there seem to be a lot of repeat cruisers. This is my first DC so I have a PAT of something like 12:30. I am taking the bus down from Albany and I believe its set to get there at 10-11 am, maybe earlier. So we will have time to kill. :(

I’ve sailed out of NY twice. I feel like maybe 11 is right because Our first cruise I checked out of my hotel and walked over and we were some of the first there. (2nd time a friend dropped us off. I remember longer lines that time).

Pretty sure there was a clear room for Platinum/Consierge. I didn’t go in it but it was marked. I do know the longest line was for Silver members (our newbie line was short).

@tigerchic89, I answered your questions within the quote of my previous post. I should have specified that there was additional information included.

Nothing to be sorry for, new cruisers are always welcome!

We cruised out of NYC last year. We got there before 11 (the earliest PAT) and it does get to be a bit of a zoo right around 10:30-11:15. We weren't concierge or platinum, so I can't answer that part, but after the initial rush, it always runs very smoothly and is a quick board, so it's really up to you. I personally like to get there as early as possible too (something about that energy of everyone anticipating getting on is just the best way to start a cruise in my opinion)

The terminal in NYC runs smooth but not as smooth as Port Canaveral. It requires more walking. You basically have to walk the length of the boat then back halfway before boarding. We were group 10 or 11 last year on the inaugural Bermuda cruise. We checked in and concierge boarding started as we walked away from the checkin desk. It was then about 5-10 minutes of sitting in the waiting area before we were called. After we were past the photo area, the line backed up for about 1/4 of the boat length and we stood in a queue for about 10-15 min before boarding. If I recall the staterooms were not ready until 2.

Hope this helps with your planning!

Can you say what time you got there? We are going next week and have a boarding time of 12 but wondering if we got there a little earlier would we be made to wIt to check in until 12?

I just looked through all my email but could not find our PAT. If I recall, it wasn’t the earliest time, but not far after. Maybe 12:15??? We arrived a few minutes early, gave our bags to the porters, took some nice family selfies looking up to the bow of the Magic and made our way in. It was crowded, but the longest we waited during the whole process was after the photo area and before stepping onto the ship. I don’t recall them ever checking our PAT. They just directed us to the counters.
