NYC on a budget, is it possible?

Just a thought - we stayed on the upper west side when we went with our kids over the summer. The hotel was about three blocks from the American Museum of Natural History. It seemed like a nice neighborhood, the hotel room was quite nice, and we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again when we go. I think we paid about $195 for the weekend after the 4th of July. It was really fun!

you should be able to get something at the marriott for about 179 in dt Manhattan but if not I would actually check out AAA travel they have good rates for nyc. If you get a hotel with parking I would drive in but thats me I like having a car in nyc.
Lots of ways to have a great trip and save money. Consider rush tickets for shows I'd research them ahead of time so you know when and where to line up. check out groupon.com and look up nyc. I was searching groupon Washington dc prior to a trip and actually got some great deals to use on an upcoming vacation. I have also purchased items for nyc since I go fairly often.
You can get passes for multiple admissions to many of the museums. Have fun I love nyc.

Dec 3rd is the tree lighting at Rockefeller...so probably why you are finding very high prices for early Dec. Try priceline and travelzoo...or hotwire.
