we just got back from our trip we had a blast :cool1:. We stayed at Ramada Inn in Rochelle park NJ we got the hotel for $50. a night at hotels.com. The hotel got tons of we got 2 connecting rooms their was 6 of us, the contintental breakfast was ok - waffle maker, eggs, cereal, bagels, muffins, juice, & oatmeal. The pool looked clean we never had time. The bus stop was right in front of the hotel.
We did City sights Ny dbl decker tour it was so much fun.
We ate at the place that had the singing waitstaff I forget the name - it was fun but overpriced.
Thanks for all your help!!

So you stayed in Jersey and did all NY sightseeing? Even with a bus right outside your door, wasn't it a hike for you? I didn't think Rochelle Park & NYC were that close... I grew up 25 minutes north of NYC...

Just for the fun of it, according to MapQuest's driving directions it is about 30 minutes from there to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Hopefully, it was an Express bus.

Sounds good to me! Beats spending $250-$400 a night plus parking in Manhatten. Thanks for the tip!

And that better be on a good day without hour-long delays into the City!!

Who cares if she stayed an hour away from NYC? To save that much money I would.

Yes we stayed in Jersey. The bus ride was between 30-45 minutes depending on if it was an express bus. The kids loved it consideing they have never been on a town bus - it was art of the experience

You can usually get a hotel in Secaucus for under $100, and it's a short bus ride into the city, plus there's a lot to do right there.

we looked everywhere & could not find a cheaper hotel. Rememeber we have 6 so we needed 2 rooms. So it was $100. per night for 2 rooms & breakast

I can understand wanting to save money since the City is very expensive. I just could not see myself commuting everyday to sight see. I guess that is because I worked in the City and had to commute to work.. and hated every darn minute of it...

When you go to disney do you not have to "commute" to go to the parks:rolleyes1 ? We were on vacation for 3 days not moving there ;). Wasn't lookng to get flammed  just updating on my trip since I asked so many questions.

What a great deal! The commute doesn't sound bad at all. I would definitely do it - especially getting two rooms. It's it fun to do an "expensive" vacation destination on a budget!

My boys (they're only 6.5yo) have been bugging me about seeing the Statue of Liberty. I was considering a hostel next summer, but this sounds even better! Thanks!

Not trying to flame or anything. Just thought I'd share my experience. I've been to New York around 5 times in the last several years. We have Always Used Priceline and bid in the Secaucus NJ area.
Infact we are going this Friday and Sat.
Room is running around $80 a night. (there online rate is $170 a night) so It's about half. So It's like getting a room for "free".
The bus stop is real close to all the hotels and In the morning on weekdays It's a 5 minute bus ride to Port Terminal before 10 am. (I think alot of business workers use the park and ride, so they let the Bus' go into the city on the outbound lane.
Anyway. We are only going for friday night late and only spending sat.
Planning to do American girl store for lunch. Yankees game and Top of the Rock. Stroll thru Times Square. My 6yo daughter loves New York and we've never been as a family.......Just posting for future reference.
