Leaving for NY this Friday. (staying in Secaucus area) catching the bus into the Port Authority Bus terminal at 42st.
My dd is 10 and really just wants to shop. We went the last few years, so it's has become somewhat of a tradition. I feel like we've done most tourist things, so I'm running out of ideas.
So here's my plan and what I'm having questions about. Does this make since.
Get out of the bus terminal and walk to 30th street between 11 and 12 streets to get on the High Line Park. Walk the park to the end. At the end how far away is the financial district? This is where we shopped last year at Century 21 (near the World Trade Center site) How far of a walk? Is the subway close to the exit from High Line Park?
We'll do Rockefella center and Chinatown. We'll try and see Annie for the Saturday 2pm show. We've done American girl , toys r us.
We have not done the sony lab or discovery store. Are these worth seeing? Any other fun things to do? And we'll check out the decorations on 5th or 6th Ave. Thanks for any suggestions.

Bryant Park is awesome at this time of the year. The NYC library is a spectacular building to see, so is Grand Central. Last year during this week, there was a special Christmas shop area, with wonderfully handcrafted items. (Very pricey items, but just wonderful to look at!)

My one recommendation - is if you have a smart phone - is to download the "HOPSTOP" app. It gives great directions (using the subways, using taxi's, and walking), approximate times to do the trip, as well as an estimated cost.

I'm not familiar enough with the city to help with your questions - but the HOPSTOP app is wonderful!

Agree with Bryant Park suggestion.

Also, my BF and I just took his two younger sisters (12 and 14) to the Natural History museum...they had a blast. I'm not sure if your daughter is into museums, but if she is...it is a great one for that age-level. We went out to Five Napkin Burger for lunch and that was really good too :)

If you haven't eaten at Jekyll and Hyde's yet, I would suggest that as a fun place to go for dinner or lunch. It has great "themeing" and is a good time.

They currently have a "art of brick" exhibit at the Discovery museum, which is art all made completely out of legos. It's also situated right in Times Square so you can kill two birds with one stone.

Have a great time!

Agreeing with the Bryant Park suggestion. Ice skating is available at the pond for free during winter (bring your own skates or rent some for about $10?).

If you dislike dirty snow slush and crowded areas, Chinatown should be avoided. There is really nothing to buy there unless you're looking for some bootleg designer items or touristy souvenirs.

As for shopping, you should visit Macy's on 34th street. Macy's currently has some cute Christmas window displays up for viewing.

Couple blocks away from Macy's is Manhattan Mall. Nothing special, just your average mall.
Korea Town is also just a down the street if you want to grab a bite to eat.

Your daughter and you would probably enjoy stardust diner - it's in the theater district

Yes to sony lab.

Highline to downtown - C21 - quite a long walk, would be nice if the weather is nice. I'd catch a bus if not. You're on the west side, so easy to take a bus (south) or subway.
