Are they good or bad for you? I bought a jar of roasted/salted almonds the other day and ate a few of them. I thought almonds were good for you? :confused3 Watching Diet Doctor on FitTV last night she said nuts weren't good for you as they are a dense food (containing no water) and should only be eaten rarely and as a garnish. I didn't want to eat a whole jar at a time (as I know they aren't the healthiest food out there) but now I'm thinking a handful isn't as good of a snack as I thought. Any thoughts?

Generally, nuts are very healthy as they are a good source of essential fatty acids. The problem is they are high in calories, so if you are on a calorie restrictive diet, you may want to eat them sparingly.

Also, your best bet is to eat raw nuts and not dry roasted. The roasting process alters the fatty acids and you are getting less good fat as a result.

Thanks for the replies!!

No wonder the roasted/salted almonds tasted so much better than the natural ones! ;)
