We currently have 225 points at ccv, 100 point gcv (resale) waiting to close, and just bought 125 points at riviera. I’m still within the 10 day period to make any changes. Now I’m wondering if I should change riv points to 175 instead. We like 1 bedroom due to the washer and dryer in the rooms as it’s very convenient with little ones. I can also foresee as the kids gets older we will eventually want a 2 bedroom however with riv one bedroom will work with the Murphy beds. We are a family of 4. Currently live in the west coast but move around every two-three years due to husband’s job but eventually plan to retire in the mid west in 10-15 years. Do you think it’s wise to change our add on from 125 to 175 points for riv? My thought process is I don’t want to have regrets I didn’t buy enough points like I felt with ccv (initially bout 150 added on another 75). Also after this add on I’m pretty much done buying more points as we will have a total of 450 (if we stick with 125 riv points) or 500 (if we change our add on to 175 riv points). The incentives for 175 is better I still get the prior to dec 16 incentives so it will bring down the pp to $167 as opposed to 125 points incentives as $179. Thought? I broke my contracts down to 75/50 for 125 pt purchase and if I were to buy 175 pots I will break it down to 50/50/75 or should I do 100/75? All my ccv contracts were 75/75/75. This is just in case my kids no longer care for Disney and they don’t want dvc when they are older I can just downsize the contract for husband and me.

With the better incentive, what's the cost differential for those extra 50 points?

(I am usually a proponent of getting a little more points, as I regret "only" having 185 at BLT and we added on 100 points at VGF less than a year after we bought our first VGF resale)

I would recommend that you buy as many points as you feel you can afford, based on your reasonable budget. No one can guarantee anything, but, it is almost certain that ALL the points will go up in value over the coming years, AND, if you get tired of them or don't use them, you can always rent them out. We still do not know what the Resale value will be for Riviera, since it has new restrictions that no other points have ever had, but it will almost certainly still be fairly decent to resell.

The price difference between 125 and 175 after incentives is 6900. If I go with 125 it’s about 179 per point. If I go with 175 points it’s about 167 per point. I feel like I barely made being a dvc member for a year (first joined and bought my first contract in oct 2018) and if I go with 175 I will have 500 points. I thought I would gradually build up my points. I started with 150 and currently at 450 assuming I stick with 125. Also would you think if I go with 175 I should break it down to 50/50/75? The add on it is sickness is real.

I agree plus I’m planning to break down my contact instead of lumping all together. I wish the reason being I don’t know if I can ever go back to a studio. I’ve never stayed in a dvc studio before. I first rented dvc points for an Aulani two bedroom last year, bought ccv sight unseen and just stayed in a 1 bedroom for 10 days loved it. And wonder if we can ever be ok with a studio. I like the one bedrooms due to the laundry and kitchen especially with young ones. If I ever have to sell any of my contracts ccv/gcv/riv and make a loss that’s ok I didn’t buy dvc to make money it’s a timeshare and there’s always a risk it’s just nice to get some money back and anything can change in the future with dvc and all the restrictions they implement.

So the additional points "cost" $138pp (obviously not counting MFs going forward, which is an additional $400+ per year?)... that's not bad.

You may be talking to the wrong person here - we "added on" at VGF (when we meant to buy BCV or BWV), only about 8-9 months after our first purchase. Then, because we didn't get BWV/BCV when we had been "planning" to, we ended up buying RIV. Oops. 🤦‍♀️

I would always break it down into smaller contracts when buying direct even if you do a 125 and 50 easier to downsize, and get more should you sell. and its not that much more to do

We have 4yo and 8yo girls. We've stayed in studios, 1br and 2br (with additional family members). Last April, we spent 10 days in a hotel room (Swan) + VGF studio. Admittedly it's one of the nicer, larger studios and has 2 shower areas - but given the number of points we had to play with, I would do it again - I'd always choose more nights if we could. (We had a lot of our VGF points committed to our upcoming 1br stay starting tomorrow - it is a whole **** of points). I'm looking forward to the 1br, but we did have a blast last time in the studio with the 4 of us. I feel like studios are fine for park commando trips, which is what last April was. We are *trying* to be more relaxed this time. Though my kids have been waking up at 5am the last few days already because they're too excited. ((RotR, here we come!!!)) 🤣

i’m worried if i stick to 125 I have the itch and regrets for not buying more points I did that with ccv. Currently waiting to close on my gcv contract that I purchased resale. I promised the hubs this will be the last time. Although I am not sure if I can resist Disneyland hotel dvc if that actually happens!

My hubs would rather I stretch the points he has no clue how I book dvc and how it actually works but always tell me to do the most economical way on using our points. He doesn’t even know how many points we own! He just comes along on our vacation. Lol.

Agreed. I did extensive research before buying my first contract and always break down my contract. All of them are either 75 or 50 points contract I had dvc break it down for me except for my gcv 100 points that I bought resale recently but waiting for it to close. Come to think of it which child would get the gcv contract lol I have two kids!

I hope you do go with the extra points, and I hope 5 years from now you’ll think it was the right thing to do!

I have always regretted not buying more VGF points, so speaking from exp.
