My situation is this, my dd has asked to bring a friend for our trip in March my ds 14 says he dosen't mind sleeping on an air mattress on the floor leaving the pull out bed for the girls.

As a new member I'm not sure how this works, My information package says that you can only have a max of 4 people in a studio or 1 bdrm.

How is this enforced? Do all familys with 3 kids take a 2 bdrm. I don't want to say no to my daughter but on the other hand i don't want any problems when I get there

I would appreciate any advice or experience you may have.

thanks, Rob:confused:

Uh-oh Rob...you've inadvertantly brought up a "hot button" issue! I'm sure you will get lots of answers to this question.

DVC official policy is that Studios and 1BRs sleep 4 max. (Except for the Studio Plus rooms at the BWV which sleep 5 w/the 5th person on a daybed.) Yes, some members choose to put 5 into these units, and some report being told by their guide that this was okay, but it is against the official DVC policy.

Hope this helps.

Go by the book. While you MAY get away with five, four is the limit for the studio and one bedroom units. I certainly wouldn't want to take the chance of being told no at check-in and having to figure out what to do. (Not to mention sharing one bathroom with two teenage girls would be no fun.)

Seems clear cut to me to set an example for your kids of following the rules. Just tell her she can't bring a friend this trip because you're only allowed four in the room. Maybe next time you'll have a bigger unit and she can bring a buddy then.

And yes, people with three children get two bedrooms, grand villas or multiple rooms...at least the ones following the rules do.

Call Member Services on Monday and ask. If they officially change your reservation to 5, then you will have no problem when you get there (ask for an updated confirmation in writing). If they say no, then you have your answer.

As Michelemouse stated, the official rule is only 4. I would like to see the rule followed, and do so myself. But, if you can get away with 5 and don't mind sleeping on each other, wouldn't want the rule to stop a visit to WDW by a kid. There are a bunch of rules that Disney does not enforce (smoking in the park comes to mind), that impact other guests more.
As you can tell by the post by my wife(WDWguru), this issue splits people, even in the same house. Part of the reason that you will find DVC'ers react so vigorously is that they own the property in question, NOT Disney. As I stated, I prefer to see the rules, all rules, followed and enforced. But if Disney isn't going to enforce them, to what extent are they really rules and to what extent can I blame those that don't follow them.

This question usually encourages a heated debate- which is welcomed only on the Debate Board.

The stated occupancy limits at DVC resorts are 4 in a studio or 1BR and 8 in a 2BR. A child under the age of 3 is also allowed in the provided crib. (The already mentioned BWV Studio Plus rooms do have a daybed in addition to the queen and sleep sofa.)

Disney has made it clear that they will not perform room checks to see how many are actually in a room, but they will not provide extra bedding in the rooms.

Many have reported bringing an air mattress with great success.

Enjoy!
