We are working with the Timeshare Store on the purchase of DVC at OKW. My wife and I decided it was perfect for us. She was unaware at the time that a golf course ran through the resort and is now wanting to switch to BCV. Can anyone tell us if this is a big concern or has been a problem in the past for them..smjj

Which concern are you questioning? The fact that OKW wraps around the golf course, or the desire to switch to BCV?

Her concern is the golf course, mine is the BCV. I like the location of the BCV's but all the reading I have done there seems to be a common thread on several reports of cleaning issues at BCV's. I know we would be happy at either one but its a lot of money and we want to be really sure of our home...smjj

The reports of cleaning issues at BCV's are just bull, we had stayed there (in March) and it was a non issue. All of the DVC resorts have something wrong with them, being it not looking clean from the outside or the room have some marks on the tables etc. where ever you call "home" you will not be sorry!::yes::

There are about 4 holes that run through the OKW property out of 18, I don't really understand what the concern is about a golf course. Can you be more specific? What are her concerns, the way it is stated in your OP like it is something that is understood. I once played golf nearly everyday of my life, I should be able to help you with your question if I knew more.

Cleaning issues... if they even exist at all, are an operational execution item that can be fixed by replacing one individual. I would hardly let that affect my choice of location.

If for some reason... you hate the idea of a golf course passing near your resort... well, that is more serious. Generally it makes the property more valuable... not the opposite.

I agree with the comments about cleaning. Anything that you have read represents isolated instances. BCV does not have a reputation as having a poor housekeeping staff above-and-beyond the rest of the DVC resorts.

Besides, over the next 40 years, issues like cleanliness and quality of transportation will ebb and flow at each property.

Don't know if perhaps you have privacy concerns regarding the golf course??? If so, I'll just point out that each building has multiple stories. A second or third story room should have little line of sight from the course. Also many, many rooms at OKW have no golf course view. There are very nice rooms with a view of the canal running through the resort, and others with a woods view.

The golf course that runs through some areas of OKW is definitely a plus and not a negetive. We no longer golf, but we love watching the golf course in the late afternoon and evening. You don't actually see many golfers, because there aren't many holes within the confines of the resort, but some units have good views because of it. The water hazards and rolling greens and fairways make for some lovely views. I guess I don't know what would be negetive about having the golf course. We have stayed many times, and I have not even noticed noise with lawn maintanance. The golf cart paths are pretty well hidden, and I have NEVER even seen a stray golf ball there.

if it is the package that just went pending yesterday, dump it... i want it and have a back-up offer in :smooth:... we just got back from BCV and OKW, we love them both... but as they say, buy where you want to stay

As already pointed out, isolated cleaning issues can happen at any of the DVC resorts. It only takes one housekeeper having a bad day.
We have had a couple 'less than par' housekeeping issues at VWL, but I knew it was not resort wide, nor was it happening all the time. We just happened to draw the short straw a couple times in a row. A quick call to housekeeping, and everything was corrected.
On our last visit to VWL, our villa was clean as a whistle.

What is the point of the story?
Just that housekeeping issues are not isolated to any particular resort, and the majority of time everything will be fine. On the occasion when there is a problem, the Disney staff will correct it immediately.

Good luck...

Hey looks guys. I just posed a couple of concerns, nothing more. I am a golfer and have played on courses where condos are very close to the greens. My wife simple said she was unsure of being real close to a golf course. The map I showed her shows about four holes winding through the resort. She had a valid concern and I posted it here. I am not critizing the resort, just asking questions. Its still is our primary pick. As for the BCV's. I have in the past read some post about cleaning issues and addressed them here. I am glad to read and expected to read that this was not a issues but wanted to get others input. One thing I have just learned though, don't even hint as critizing a resort, you get people real upset...smjj

Don't worry....

Nobody was taking you to task for criticizing a resort, it was just unclear for some as to your DW's potential objections surrounding the golf course.

As others have noted, the golf course is very unobtrusive at OKW, and well laid out. The few villas that border the course are well set back.

The BCV cleaning issue did get a lot of press initially, and it is being dealt with. Some owners took it personally, and interpreted it as an "attack" on their investment as I'm sure will happen with the "bug" issue over at SSR. It too, will be fixed.

Base your decision on first hand experience. Visit both. You are right, it is a lot of money and you have to be comnfortable with your decision.

Good Luck!

Sorry if you took my post wrong. I didn't think I was being defensive. I only stated how I felt about having the golf course at OKW.

If you are concerned about the course being too close to the units or condos do not be. The are a couple of tees that are close by, but the condos are protected by heavy brush from them. Most people do not realize that a great deal of the 4 holes that are on the course have water between them and the units. I have played on many courses that have condos, I know what you mean about closeness, it is not that way at OKW. The condo units are not connected to the golf course, they have nothing to do with it. OKW guests are not allowed on the course. The course itself is not the most popular down at WDW. It is never crowded. I guess your concern was the closeness to the units, well don't be if that is what the concern is.
It should not be something that effects a decision to buy there one way or another. One thing I love about this site is you never know what soomeone will ask or come up with on any given day. Just to finish of this situation, the back of the units face the golf course and none of the units I know of have back yards that anyone would want to go into, in fact most of the back yards are difficult to enter. Guest should not be in the back of most units now that I think about it except on their porch. There are a few exceptions of course.

We've stayed at OKW a few times and BCV also....enjoyed them both. Golf course never seemed like a negative, and I'm not a golfer! We haven't experienced the room problems mentioned at BCV...but if we did see problems, a quick call to mousekeeping would certainly take care of it.
Both resorts are lovely....we tend to pick them just based on what kind of vacation we plan to have. Laid back = OKW
Swimming and walking to parks = BCV

Have you been to OKW, if not, wait and visit or, better yet, stay there.

As stated I don't think anyone is getting upset, just confused by your question.

I still not sure why being near a golf course would be a concern. Could you be a little more clear as to what there is about a golf course that would concern her, and then maybe we can respond.

If she has a total aversion to anything doing with Golf then yes there is a golf course there. Specifics would help.

I guess if you are married to a Golfer, being near a Golf course could be a dislike for some. :)

We are all just confused to why it would matter.

If your wife doesn't like the golf course, I would request a water view. After we staying in building 28 which is on a fairway and is pretty much blocked by trees and brush, I requested water view the next 3 times and we got nice views in 31, 40 & 43.
