Speak'n of road kill, quite some time ago, I had a great uncle by marriage (no blood !) hit by a car while in the road try'n to retrieve fresh road kill to BBQ. ...BigDaddyRog,try to give a eulogy for that one. Mrs.:goofy:

You know...between this story, and the one about Rog's rooster "persuing" the dog before meeting with an untimely death caused by a run in with a tough racoon.....well, I'm begining to wonder WHERE THE HELL DO YOU PEOPLE LIVE?

Hey, I know where Cohoes is - I went to school in Troy.

I had a great uncle who was a real mountain man. He wore a skunk skin hat - coon skin was too orthodox for him. He always had an interesting dish to bring to family reunions - no one dared eat it.

FWGuy......you are a classic, dude!!!

I live in a small town called Mandeville, Louisiana....as it says in my avatar...its 30 miles north of New Orleans. When I first moved here from New Orleans 5 years ago...it was VERY rural...thats why we left New Orleans for here...to get away from it all, but STILL be able to commute to work. Since Hurricanes Katrina & Rita......its not so rural here anymore. Tons of people have finally crossed that 24 mile long bridge and moved over here...and its becomming a typical suburb. Thats driving the wildlife around here nuts, they dont know where to go, so they end of in backyards and under houses.....my dogs fight the coons everynight when they come in to eat the dog food(well...they bark at them, keep in mind my Scotty is fearfull of chickens, and the Chihuahua is as queer as a $3 bill, so there aint much fighting, but lots of b*tching and barking). My daughter hit a deer on her way to school a couple of months ago. And last year we had to keep our cats inside because there was a flock of eagles(not bald) or falcons, not sure which who stayed in the neighborhood and a couple of neighbors saw them swoop down and grab cats and fly off!!!!! Hows that for irony...My cats are always out there stalking birds...and then the birds were stalking THEM!!!!

Help yourself! More BS where that came from ! :upsidedow

Where in Appalachia are you? I'm in East Tennessee...born and raised. My wife is from Southwest Va. True story...my wife was doing geneology research online noticed that the person who posted info on her family was also the same person who posted info on MY family. Long story short, we are sixth cousins once removed. Creepy, eh!? :rolleyes1

yikes! :lmao:

I live in Blacksburg. I'm not born and raised here, though. Annapolis, actually. So, alas, we are not related :rotfl:

Thanks for the BS! I always appreciate good BS :thumbsup2

I live about 20 minutes away from Cohoes, in Clifton Park! When I drive through there I'll have to make sure to drive slowly and beware of all types of road kill!

I grew up in a VERY small town in the Adirondacks where the only source of entertainment for teenagers was a good kegger around a BIG bon fire in the middle of nowhere. At one time (a long time ago) I held the town record for "longest keg stand". It gets longer and longer every time I hear that story...everyone dies famous in a small town! No one who knows me now believes that story though.

Rog, you know Mandeville ain't small. If you want to see small, come visit Ft. Polk. Nearest mall is over an hour away. I stopped in Covington on my way to FW this last trip and MY has it grown since we lived there.

Oh and there is actually a cook book full of recipes you can cook on your engine block while on a road trip. I will have to find a link for ya'll.

Clifton Park!...I love that area. Did some apple picking nearby. My sister is actually thinking of moving there if her husband can get a transfer he's waiting for. We have a seasonal site in a campground in Corinth...Alpine Lake RV Resort. We were making the trip to the Outback Steakhouse in Clifton Park until they built the one in Queensbury. One of my brothers has a home in Fort Anne, and the other in Bolton Landing. Where is it that you grew up?

Actually, Ft. Polk isn't bad now. You should have seen it 20 years ago.

Yeah...we even have 5 o'clock traffic now!!! They finally got around to making a 3rd lane on 190...thats been a big help.

I grew up in a town called Wells in Hamilton County. We used to play Bolton in sports...you know it's a small town when you regularly travel an hour or more to play a ball game! I really like living in Clifton Park...it's a great area. Technically I live in the Town of Halfmoon. We almost camped up at Alpine Lake last fall. It looks like a great campground!

Fall is one of the nicest times to camp at Alpine. Although they do close by October 15th.;) It's quiet and the fall foiliage is beautiful.
Alpine was bought over by Equity Life Styles/Encore Resorts..they also own Tropical Palms in Florida. My son kayaks in both the Hudson and Sacandaga Rivers..and of course the campground offers two lakes for fishing(although it's catch and release) The resort offers a pool and kiddie pool, beach area, tennis/basketball that sort of thing. DJ's on Saturday evenings..and different movies and activites scheduled through the summer. They have a web site you might want to check out. www.AlpineLakeRvResort.com. You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the state...we love it there. Although, you've sure had your share of snow this season!

Man, you guys from Texas - you sure know your way around BBQ. This is my observation: Texas - the heart of BBQ country. Just about anywhere in the South - BBQ is a regional art form. California - grilling is a way of life (where I learned the art).

Thanks. BBQ is a way of life down here.

I like California style grilling too.

We have cooking teams from all over the world here too.....Dallas......Lubbock.....San Antonio.....even El Paso.....;)

Actually, 2 booths down from us is a Canadian cooking team from the "Calgary Stampede" (the other "world's largest rodeo" :lmao: ). These guys are good.....and all business...... We, OTOH are all play (poor fellas, they don't stand a chance.....).

Webster says:

n. 1. an outdoor meal for which food is roasted over an open fire.
2. Any meat roasted over an open fire

v. 1. to roast meat, fowl, etc. over an open fire.
2. to cook with a highly seasoned sauce

So you could, in fact, be BBQing

Webster has spoken.

Hey! I'm a Librarian...they pay me to know these things. Webster's isn't the end all. :goodvibes

You come down here and ask for a BBQ sammage and they give you a sammage with meat on it, not a hunk of metal with charcoal or gas in it. They don't give you a cooking style or a type of seasoning. And it's not just any meat..it has to be from a BarBQue that has matured enought to obtain a Top Hat and a Walking Stick. If it doesn't have those, then it isn't real BBQ. :rotfl:

Oh, we could go on for ever on this topic!
