DH an I have booked a 3 bed/2bath condo for last of Sept early Oct I was making a list of food to freeze an reheat at the condo DH suddenly says that is to much like eating leftovers an would rather eat our meals out. Only wants me to cook breakfast .

I thought the reason for getting condo was to eat there OHHHHHHHHH Well guess it's that much less I have to do before leaving home. Myself I'd rather eat my own cookin .

Started out dH was planning to ride the harley down YES we have done it before our June visit was so miserable DH not ready to ride down again yet. So then he decides to drive so we can take food for most all our meals. Now he doesn't want to take the food other than for breakfast I do cook a big breakfast every morn.

OH wait originally we was going to stay in a hotel room very cheaply one we have stayed in before an was happy with. changed to condo when I was gonna cook. I not givin up my condo tho I HATE hotel rooms no place to be up while DH sleeps.

I say keep the condo!!! we found a 2bed/2bath for $40 a night, and plan on doing all our breakfasts there, pack picnics for some of our lunches, and cook half of our dinners to help with costs... so we still get to eat out at some nice places, but stay within budget too! :thumbsup2

Why not just pack stuff you'll need to prepare meals, buy the food down there and cook the meals fresh?

We just got back from 2 weeks in a rental home. We had breakfast in the house every day. We only cooked dinner a couple of times, but we could easily have done more if we wanted to.

One tip, though. We have often found the cookware available in the rental homes and condos to be pretty pathetic. On this last trip, the pots and pans were really cheap dollar store type stuff and all but a couple were all scratched up. And never have we had a place with even one decent knife. Since you are driving, bring along a couple of knives and a couple of pots and pans that you think you'd use the most.

GOOD idea about the pans but DH not gonna want to hang in condo while I cook even the simplest meals other than breakfast it's his loss not mine. We eat cheap anyway almost always share meals so that not no biggie.

It isn't tough to make a nice meal in half an hour (Racheal Ray, anyone?). While we were away, I prepared dinner while DW showered when we got back from the park. One night I made dinner while DW and DD were in the pool. Your DH needs to realize that it will take just as long, if not longer, to drive to a restaurant, wait to be seated, wait to have your order taken, wait for your food and drive back to the condo. Quicker, easier, cheaper and healthier to do it yourself.

DisneySteve WE you an I others here know this....Though I don't totally agree with you depending on when you eat you can get seated immediately and you can eat out pretty healthy. DH an I tend to eat our big meal of the day before 5pm that helps it also helps we are a party of 2. We also take a afternoon break anyway daily so we will be outside the parks anyway to stop at a decent resturant that not to terribly crowded. I tend to order grilled chicken broiled or grilled fish veggies usually steamed along with a side salad on the rare occassion I order a tater it is always baked an dh gets at least half of it if not more.

We will be at disney for the Food an Wine Festival an plan on spending a good part of the the time in Epcot. I agree I could still do very healthy meals very quickly at the condo but at least I'll be sampling food I don't get every day yet will be mostly making healthy choices I have to.

Every year, when I arrive at the home we rent I buy a new teflon pan for morning eggs. A few years ago I bought them a crock pot too (hope it's still there). That way I can start a great meal in the morning and it's ready when we get back in the evening.

Saving money on housing and meals makes it possible for us to go every year.

Sometimes, depending on the individual home you rent, kitchens can be very well stocked as a feature. Especially if the owners use the home themselves. It is a good question to ask when you are considering renting the home how the kitchen is stocked, especially if you are like us and love to have meals in when you are away--even cooking breakfast, an occasional dinner, and some lunches to pack up for the parks. Some homes actually have crock pots as they know families like to prepare things in the morning, go to the park, and return home for a break and a meal. So if this is important to you, don't be afraid to ask the question!

I enjoy getting carryout on the way home from the parks and bringing it back to our rental home! Saves money on beverages and tip. We usually do breakfast at the rental, and evening snacks, with maybe a meal of something simple one or two nights (Like spaghetti). I don't go on vacation to cook, though :upsidedow. Who has the energy after a day of fun in Orlando? I do agree that a condo is nicer than a hotel, whether you end up in the kitchen or not :)!

Oh I didn't mention this is our 4th disney visit this year with another one planned in dec with a condo an prolly again in Jan or Feb an for sure sometime in May 2 week visits each time.

We have done really well eating in resturants in June TGIFridays had buy 1 get one entree free, Arbys had buy 5 for 5.00 reg roast beefs which was enough for DH an I to get 2 meals an a snack off of with me adding a side salad or veggie. Olive garden we got 3 meals off our LUNCH from there. NEVER waited at any of the resturants at anytime either even Father's Day was seated immediately.

I think DH has decided riding down rather than driving van better gas mileage on the harley an that will cover cost of eating out. Will prolly depend on weather at last min.

Same here. We like just sitting down as a family in a quiet house/condo and having a peaceful meal, whatever it happens to be. After a day in the parks with crowds and noise, it is a nice break to eat in the condo, even if it is just takeout pizza.

I really like the idea of picking up carry-out on the way "home" from the parks. What places do you frequent for carry-out? Do you have to call ahead? how much time does it take for this task as opposed to preparing a simple meal at the condo? I'd like to explore this option a little more to see how i can make it work for us. Thanks.

There are lots of options, just as there are at home where you live. You can get pizza. You can order take-out from a sit-down restaurant. You can get Chinese food. You can go to the supermarket and get prepared foods like rotisserie chicken and sides. You can pick up hoagies at Subway.

We have never called ahead if we were picking up something on our way home. We have called for pizza from the house and then I went back out to pick it up. You could also order for delivery from a lot of places.
