Now i'm really bummed... (Indiana Jones rehab)

It is a bummer that it's down for summer but then we all have something to look forward to, right? The first time I went to DL Pirates and Space were down and boy were they worth the wait.

Where's the link?

It's on the official DL calendar. http://disneyland.disney.go.com/dis...ly/daily?name=CalendarDailyPage&date=20080613

I'm sorry that it's going to be down for those of you who are going this summer. But, come on, DL is not all about the Indy ride. Indy isn't even a Disney movie so DL has no obligation to tie it into the movies release. They didn't have to do all the extra live shows and stunt shows. I've been to DL when one if not more major attractions were down, including Indy, it's just the way it is. There's only so much time and so many people qualified to work on these rides that they have to schedule rehabs when they fit.

If you are going to DL this summer, I sincerely hope you have a wonderful time enjoying all the other attractions and atmosphere that only Disney can provide. Besides, you'll have another excuse to plan another trip. ;)

In the past we have noticed it goes down quite frequently actually, sometimes even when we are in line waiting to go on. But, I guess it has to be a pretty good reason, better safe than sorry!

Oh My Goodness!!! My family has been looking forward to going on IJA for a while. I am so sad!! My DDad is going to be sad he is a huge Indiana Jones fan!!!    :sad2: :sad2: :sad1: :sad1:

with the ride being closed for a long period, I wonder if we can speculate if they are going to update it to include something from the new movie?

just like they did when they closed Pirates.

sorry for all you guys looking forward to the indiana jones ride

but you can view it and more on youtube.

I found this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKAGolldJsk

Bummer that it's going to be closed, but it really does seem to need a rehab. It was down A LOT during our trip last week. DH and ds got to ride it 3 times during our trip, but it seemed like several times we walked by it was closed.

On our October trip it was closed out of no where for our entire trip. Seems to need some work!

You know, it was reported on MiceChat as still running yesterday, but only at half capacity. I'm wondering if they are just saying it will be down until they have a clearer idea of how long this refurb will take.

I just called guest services and they said they got a email yesterday saying it was going to be down.
They have no idea for how long or why it is down she told me.

We are traveling 3000 miles to get there and my son has been talking for months, how many times a day he wants to ride it and I had to tell him today he won't be riding it at all.

What horrible timing with the new movie out and the new show they have.

OH NO!!!!!!!!!!! That is my favorite ride! I even named my dog Indiana after Indiana Jones the Ride at Disneyland. Poo!

You do realize that Indiana was the dog's name right? :rotfl2: At least according to Dr Jones Sr. :lmao:

I love Indy too, but it definitely needs a refurb. Rides go up and down all the time, sometimes it's expected, sometimes it's not. No big deal, it will be back.

I am soooo disappointed! This July will be our first and probably only DL trip since WDW is so much closer and we were looking forward to this ride since WDW doesn't have it.

Too bad it has to be down for so long.

I guess the summer promotion really meant it to the extreme when when it utilized the word "hidden" in it's title.

WOW four pages of responses! But I agree with everyone that this is a major bummer... I'm hoping that maybe that August 31st date that blackjackdelta posted will be true.

I really wonder what went on since it was such an unexpected closing... oh well... can't really cancel my trip.

when we were there last Sunday it was closed until at least 1 p.m.

It's been closed many times when I was there the last few months too.

I think there are many issues with this ride -- I'm sure Disney would not have closed it for the summer unless there were substantial problems.

I agree. Twice in the last few weeks we have been in line and it had to shut down. Something is up beyond just a audio upgrade. Remember, the ride has been in constant heavy usage since it opened back in 1995 and it is just showing it's age unfortunately. On top of it's age and mileage there is just alot of complexity to this ride with so many elements and variables.

Indy was an experimental ride too so it was using untested technology and has been a good attraction in spite of it's unknown long-term reliability.

I suspect the vehicle hydraulic mechanisms are failing more and more and the rides efficiency and reliability has been suffereng so they decided to rebuild the mechanics of the cars and the tracks. Just a guess but what else would take that long and force a summertime closure, especially with it being a summer of Indy.

Wow, now I am so glad I went last month when it was open. That was my first trip to DL so it was the ride I was most excited about too. I'm so sorry for those of you are going to miss it on your trips this summer! I would have been crushed if that had happened to us. That really stinks.

It did break down at least once when I was there, and one of the times we rode it the audio was off, and the we had to wait a few minutes at the boulder scene, which pretty much took the edge off the ride. But we went back on it again afterwards and it was fine.

It was our favorite ride--so hopefully the rehab will make it even better.

And as a recent first-timer to DL, there's a lot of other stuff to do. Can't totally make up for Indy being closed, but the new Space Mountain is fantastic...I actually did that more times than Indy!

I can't imagine they *wanted* to close this ride, so suddenly and for what they seem to think will be so long. But I doubt they enjoy it going down several times a day, either.

I remember a ton of discussion sometime in this last year about an incident on Indy, and the real story never came out. Well, someone said they had the real story, but others, just as trustworthy as the reporting person, doubted it. I doubt the TRUE story of what happened and what they are fixing won't be told, and if it IS told it can't be trusted b/c I believe CMs aren't supposed to tell (so if they tell then they are by definition untrustworthy, lol).

That's why I don't think they "planned" to close it down now. I wonder if they were hoping to make it through the summer rush, but the increased crowds that the attraction is seeing because of the movie forced their hand now. Could they have thought more ahead and planned this out better? Perhaps, but it's also possible that this issue has just come up now and they have no choice but to close the ride. To be honest, I'd rather they close the ride now even though it's a major inconvenice instead of running it into ground, thus requiring a substantially longer shutdown.

When i was there last october it kept going down, and everyone has knowen for along time that it would need to be redone for that reason. But everyone figuared with the new movie coming down they didn't want to close it cause it would be a star attraction, so i totally agree that theres probley a major problem that happened and disney just doesn't want to talk about it, either that or they got tired of people complaining they were in line for 1-2-3 hours and it breaks down..... I'm sure its not something they were wanting to do but really had to do!!! but i totally understand everyone being upset i would be too!!!! Summers busy enough but then to have 2 major rides down!!! :furious:

Ok--can't promise--but someone on another board just posted that they called DLR and was told that the posting of Indy being down for the summer was inaccurate . . . and someone reported it was open today (with a one-hour wait).
