Now I understand why people don't love the Wish

We sailed on the Wish last week. It’s a beautiful ship. Service was fine, but very detached. I won’t go into detail about all the negatives and positives because it’s already been discussed ad nauseam on these boards. I think for me it was mostly the layout and the inward feel of everything.

I’ve sailed other cruise lines besides Disney. It wasn’t just that it was different or unfamiliar…..the whole layout just really made no sense to me.

The Mexican and BBQ was great. The laundry was awesome. It will be interesting to see if they improve the next ship or it will be just another carbon copy.

As a first time cruiser, my wife and I had nothing to compare our experience with. We were also on the 4 day last week, and overall we enjoyed our sailing. That said, it's a one and done for us on the Wish but she looks beautiful compared to the others at the port in Nassau!

Our first cruise was on the Dream and that escalated into 29 DCL cruises. There’s something missing on the Wish and it certainly wasn’t people. There was way too many humans onboard.

I would give the classic ships. a try. Small well maintained ships are a novelty in the cruise industry. One thing DCL does better than anyone is keep their old ships top of the line.

Agree with everything you said. It's not that it's different. It just makes NO SENSE!

I would only go back on the Wish again if it was a sailing with under 1,000 guests onboard. We've been back on the Dream since then (night and day) and next we will return to the Magic.

Hopefully they do listen to feedback and make tweaks to Treasure, but it's hard to imagine basic tweaks being enough. They need to do some serious layout changes to fix this one.

Sailed on the Wonder, Dream, Oasis of the Seas, and the Wish. They are all different. We had no problems with the wish 3 weeks ago.

My only "gripe" would be if I was not able bodied and couldn't take the stairs, I would not enjoy the ship. The elevators are a problem, and on the outside decks, there are stairs everywhere.

We are bale bodied so it was not a big deal.

Oh. They need another hot tub or 3.

Cruise lines keep going bigger which makes it less enjoyable in my opinion. We sail on Odyssey out of Rome this May. I‘ll see how the two monsters compare. My guess is the Odyssey will be laid out better. It couldn't possibly be worse. I can’t understand why they scattered the adult bars all over the ship.

The space for the 18-20 years is a good idea, but apparently it’s just an idea because it was only open 2 hours during the whole cruise.

We did the walking tour on the Wish in Sept. they told us the bars are scattered all over instead of one place because people put on comment cards that they didn’t want to go to one place for them .

The Treasure will be the same lay out but different themes it was already in production. I don’t like the layout either .

Agreed. She was a one and done (ok 2 since we did a b2b) for me. I prefer the Fantasy to this new design. It's not connected...so many dead ends. I didn't like much about it at all.

I think you are right that the Treasure will only have minor changes beyond the theming changes. Not only was the design process far along after reviews of the Wish started coming in, but it costs a lot of money to make material changes on the design side. I haven't sailed the Wish (because of it's short itinerary), but I can tell from watching a lot of vlogs and reading enough reviews that it wouldn't be a good match for our all-adult family. I also don't like the step away from the classic ocean liner feel of the fleet. That's one of the things I love most about DCL.

My fear now is that the Treasure will replace the Fantasy in the Caribbean, leaving us without a classic ship for the 7-day Caribbean itineraries. On the other hand, it might be the push we need to start sailing other lines.

They have got to do something about the elevator buttons, though. For real. We were "Elfed" so many times in full elevators just because when you get enough people in, you can't help but stand next to the buttons. And they were full more often than not!

I've now sailed the Wish, the Dream, and the Magic. My least favorite is the Wish. Magic felt intimate. Dream was well-designed and kid friendly. Wish felt big just for the sake of being big. Getting outside to a promenade deck on 4 or 5, doors were unmarked like they didn't really want you going out there. a third bank of elevators was definitely missed. So many dead ends and strange layouts. Festival of foods was very good and most of the staff was stellar. I'd like to try out the Fantasy and the Wonder, but I'm pretty sure I'm done with the Wish.

Where are all these dead ends everyone is talking about? I never once walked into one, but admittedly, I didn't just walk around exploring--I'd look in the app where I was going and head there by the most direct route (e.g., if I was going to somewhere aft, I'd walk to the aft stairs/elevator, go the applicable floor and head to the correct side of the ship -- starboard or port before looking for the place I was going). I think I went to every single venue on the ship and never once hit a dead end.

I know that there is definitely a dead end for the adult-only pool.

My niece sent me this photo of the doors to the Promenade. Definitely not an invitation to go outside.

They only look like that during crew drills when you can't be out there. If you zoom in, you can see it says "Crew Only" or something to that effect. They are usually not shut up tight like that. We had several drills on our Jan 20 cruise because there was to be a US Coast Guard inspection upon our return on Jan 23. If you go to my trip report, you can see photos of a full lifeboat drill on the starboard side. They launched every single lifeboat in Nassau. Deck 4 was unavailable during this time.

Wow! Reminds me of a Vegas casino hiding the exits. I know there is a window next-door, but the more open the ship is to the views, the better.
It is open most of the time with a regular door with a nice glass window in it. I'll see if I can find a photo. This is only during drills when the deck is closed.

Ah ok, I only went there once just to get a drink then left—but I never spend much time in the adult pool on any of the ships so I can see how I missed it. Still, from the way people talk about the Wish you’d think it was a maze full of dead ends and that definitely wasn’t my experience.

I didn't take a picture of the doors apparently, but here's a screenshot from Scott Sander's deck 4,5,6 walking tour. This is from the outside, but the doors slide open exactly the same way they do on the other ships and look exactly the same from the inside. Those white interior doors were open the vast majority of the time. We only saw them shut a couple of times. Embarkation Day and during some drills and what appeared to be crew training. We heard an officer giving some new people training about the life boat on Castaway Cay day from our verandah. Fun fact: lifeboats on the Wish have a capacity of 314 with a 304 passengers and 10 crew per boat.
