Now Approaching... Sleepingbooty's Sept. PTR (We're BAAACK! 9/26)

Meghan got a sherpani? Dancegirl Meghan? I didn't remember that.

I have a pair of Teva sandals that I wear to the park, and while they are comfortable, they really could use some more arch support. I wish the Keens fit me right because they do have more support. Too narrow I guess. I hope the girls like them.

Haha, no, I know Meghan's a Vera girl! I remembered you telling Meghan about your Sherpani bag on her PTR!
I think Reef's have fantastic support. It's tough finding a pair that is comfortable a whole vacation, though. I feel like people have the best luck when they alternate between different pairs.

Ok, I just have to dive in and share my thoughts on this: (I just know I"m skating on thin ice, so sorry...)

I think it is about 1/3 as "dorky" to wear a backpack then end up with a ton of pix with your shoulder strap from a bag making "things" look terribly ummm.... out of whack. Kinda lopsided, and "not in order". I really don't know how to delicately put this, but sometimes I see pix on TRs that just seriously make me cringe! :scared1: They are out of fashion and all that, but they are comfy, and fit just the right amount of stuff in them.

OK, having said that, I am taking a bag (over the shoulder) this time, and just know that I"ll end up just as described above. :rolleyes1

:rotfl: Yes, the across the body bags can sometimes have the 'cross your heart bra' effect!

I found them in the timberland outlet for $20.[/QUOTE]

Wow, great deal - those are cute!

And these, the latest and greatest, the Naot. Truly the greatest, who knows but I wanted a dressier sandal than my keens that did not have a back strap at all. I tried another style first but it was too narrow. The footbed on this is amazing! We will see how it does.

Wow, those are pretty cool! The footbed looks like birkenstocks, is that what they feel like?

No, I didn't. I think she meant she remembered you mentioning the sherpani bags over on my PTR. :goodvibes I could never cheat on my Vera bags!!!

That's right! I forgot about you and your Veras!:lmao:

That's right! I forgot I talked about it there. I'd like to try some Reefs. Problem is I can't find them in stores to try them on. Not even sure yet if I will be getting new shoes for me. I'd like to, but its sorta the last item on my list, so if there is $$ left.....

Actually think they are a bazillion times comfier than birks. It's like walking on a cloud. I've had 2 birks over the years and always thought of the footbeds as rather hard. Perhaps it was the style, I don't know, niether were something I purchased, they were gifts. They have a ton of sandals, many far cuter than these but they run narrow so I had to go with one of the styles that ran wider. I really like them and think I've got a decent rotation. I do feel the backside of the "bling" rivets but I'm not sure they will bug me, I can just feel them. I like the way the top strap is elastic and moves with you. I wore them all day yesterday and will probably do the same today.

I do think in many ways, for support, the privo's are my fav out of the bunch but we will see if I feel the same when I get back. I know my privo floats (may jane sytle), which aren't going on this trip as I can't bear a closed toe shoe in the heat, were absolutely perfect on last years Feb trip with nary an issue.

10 bucks says no matter what I do, there will be some small hot spot or blister. In that humidity and heat unless I never wear shoes and go anywhere, I don't think I can avoid it but we will see. Heaven knows I am trying to avoid it! I had a bad experience in the south beach/ the keys a few years ago and that was May!

Cynthia, you are my shoe guru! Those Noats sound really comfy, but they ought to be at that price. I remember when I got my first pair of birks years ago. They felt uncomfortably stiff at first, but after they broke in and conformed to my feet, they were the most comfortable shoes ever - despite not being soft. Wore 'em all through college.

Oh, the girls love their Keens. They came yesterday and they are SO cute. And they fit, too. I was thinking there was a distinct possibility that I'd need to exchange for a smaller size.:)

Yeah they'd better be for the price, no doubt! I about had a heart attack when I saw the price. I don't think I'd have gone there if I hadn't gotten such a rave review from a close friend who has foot issues...and I was coming off of the trauma of a blister from the privo's I thought would be my primary park shoe. It makes you spend money. :rotfl: Although technically they are the only ones bought for the trip, the rest I either had already, or bought for the spring break trip. Yeah... I can figure out a way to justify almost anything.

I wore them all day today and have to admit...they pretty much rocked. Still bringing multiple pairs though. After this trip, I'll never need to buy another travel shoe again. At least not for a summer walking trip!

I'm so glad the girls liked their Keens!

Wow, I've been gone for too long, Becca. We're talking about shoes now? I always have a hard time with shoes because my foot is a bit flat and one leg is noticeably longer than the other, making long walks kind of hard on the longer leg.....

Those keens look really good though. I'm never sure whether I should invest in a pair of nice shoes because I just don't know how well they'll work with my feet and legs. My mom won't let me buy birkenstocks. Says it's too "old" for me

I know what you guys mean about the cross body straps. I've been carrying my travel mate around and have noticed this "sweat strap" across my chest when I take the bag off....I think I'll try to live with the "wonkiness" of the girls, instead of having photos of me with a red strap across my collarbone :rotfl:

Chapter 39. Mini Lake trip TR, part 2

I think I should have come back to this sooner, since after a month - my memory is starting to fail! Note to self: bring a travel journal on Disney trip to jot down memories or TR will get very light on details after the first few chapters.

The first full day of our trip to the lake was Sunday, July 4th. It was a beautiful day, so we got right up and.... sat around and drank coffee for about 2 or 3 hours.

Well, to be fair - that's what we do pretty much every day down there. First one up starts the 20-cup coffee urn on the deck brewing (there will be a fresh pot already waiting in the kitchen thanks to the miracle of automatic coffeemakers). And gradually everyone makes their way over from the cabin, tents, or the bedrooms in the house to the deck. Some days we make a big breakfast, some days its just grab what you want from the kitchen. We all bring down quite a bit of food with us, breakfast and snack type items, and load down the buffet in the dining room with them.

My brother with his girlfriend:

As soon as we were fully fortified with caffeine and fellowship, we headed down to the dock.

My Dad:

Table Rock Lake is owned by the Army Corps of Engineers, and they have strict rules about where you can build docks. So even though my Aunt and Uncle own a large cove, they cannot get a permit to build a dock. So we just have a little swim dock - but we do tie our boats up to it while wer'e there. When we're gone, they dock the pontoon around the corner at a real dock.

My dad again:

Jenna: (doesn't she look pretty with her braces off?!)

I think we stayed down in the cove all day, and didn't head up to the house for dinner until 6 or 7. One of the families cooked up a Mexican feast - yum!

After dinner, we all piled into 3 boats and tooled over to the Cape Fair Marina, where a big firework display was set to go off around 9:30. Every year, I forget how much I DON'T like being in a rocking boat. Its not seasickness - its anxiety. There were so many boats out that the water was pretty choppy and I was getting pretty nervous - wishing we'd driven to the Marina and brought our lawn chairs. Luckily, someone on our boat had brought some adult beverages:blush: (hard cider, I think it was?), so I calmed down a bit. Tried to practice my fireworks photography skills:

I know, its terrible. None of the others were any better. But you try holding your camera still on a moving boat! I don't think it would have mattered if I DID have a tripod!

Anyway, it was a beautiful display, and we somehow made it home safely. I also really get nervous riding in the boat in the dark. You can't see a thing! :scared1:

Wow, that looked like a wonderful, relaxing time!

Yep, that's a must. We nosy DISers don't want to miss anything.

Yes! (My daughter Marlene goes to see the orthodontist tomorrow.)

No, it's good. I can't imagine trying to take fireworks pictures on a rocking boat.

Yep, relaxing it was. A complete 180 from our Disney trips!

I have such a bad memory - I always mean to write everything down, but after the first day or so, I forget even that!

Yes! (My daughter Marlene goes to see the orthodontist tomorrow.)

Thanks! Good luck to Marlene. She doesn't already have braces, does she? I don't remember them from your pictures.

No, it's good. I can't imagine trying to take fireworks pictures on a rocking boat.

You're too kind. It was awful. But yes, I did have a good excuse.;)

Wow, that sounds like a great weekend. Canada day isn't as festive with my family. We mainly just get together, the kids play with sparklers, and we watch fireworks.

What a fun, relaxing time! I'm not crazy about boats, either, to be honest. Never had the urge to do a cruise.

I forgot until you mentioned it, but one of my cousins actually did bring some sparklers down for the kids, but they didn't do that until later in the week. It had been years since we'd done sparklers - or any kind of 'at home' fireworks, for that matter!

I'm okay if its a big enough boat that you don't bob around. I just don't like bobbing around. Not much of a bobber....;)
