We are plannng a November trip to FW, the second week specifically. We researched weather trends and it is the driest month, which is great. What about insects and humidity? We are taking the Autotrain and will be sleeping in a large cabin tent (there are four of us, our daughter will be three and our son will be one).

Our last trip to DW was in January 2011 and the weather was fantastic (we live in PA so it was a nice break). That trip we stayed off property but we love camping and want to see what FW is like. I expect it to be warmer in November. The average high is 80 and the low is around 60. Any first hand reports from that time of year? Thanks!

We are at the Fort every year in November. Always Thanksgiving week, sometimes the week before and sometimes the week after.
The weather is usually wonderful! Warm during the day and cool in the evening.
You may need a sweatshirt or sweater when you are on the water.
Maybe a shower once in a while, but typically nothing major.
Now, that being said, I personally believe that the weather these days is so unpredictable everywhere. There seems to be no 'normal' anymore.
I too am in PA. and right now it is hotter and more humid than Florida. So who knows.
I would just be prepared for anything, but we have been doing this the past 5 years and feel very fortunate to have been blessed with good weather.
Just remember, it is cold in PA. in November.
It snowed here on October 29th last year. 6 inches. We had to delay are heading South by 1 day. We were without power for 28 hours.

We were at the Fort last year the week of Thanksgiving. Weather was great!

As for bugs, I could hear them, but never saw any. I'm about convinced that they spray insecticide heavily at night while we sleep, then have speakers hidden in the bushes to make bug noises to give that woodzy feel.:rolleyes1

Seriously though, they must be doing something... how can you be in central Florida with temps hitting the high 80's during the day and not have bugs! Just the magic of Disney I suppose.

You will have a wonderful trip on the autotrain. The Lorton station is just down the street from my house so we see it all the time. If only it were able to hold my motorhome, that would be a much more desirable option to driving. Though sometimes we find that getting there is half the fun. November is a great time to visit The Fort, in fact we will be there the week before you. Since DW is no longer teaching in the school we can now visit Florida without being tied to the school calendar. And just before Thanksgiving is a great time to start seeing holiday decorations. You definitely want to make a point of seeing the Osbourne Family Spectacle of Lights at Hollywood studios. The pictures of it look great but it is even more impressive in person.

We travel to the FW Campgrounds 4X year in our 5th wheel. We have been there in the Spring, Fall and Winter, and have NEVER, NEVER been bothered by bugs. The only time we've seen critters at WDW is when we go to "Its Tough To Be A Bug" at Animal Kingdom. But they DO have wild turkeys wandering around the area, watch out for them! :cool1:

As other posters have stated weather is unpredictable. We stayed in Fort Wilderness in middle of Nov thru Thanksgiving in 2010 and the weather went from hot one day to freezing another. The majority of our visit was in coats, hats, and gloves. We too are from PA and used to the cold but it was a damper on our visit, since we were not able to use the pools or enjoy warm weather. Just posting that you can not predict what the weather is going to be like. There were no bugs but it was cold!

You were lucky! I wonder if different areas of the campground differ as far as bugs go? We were there last year, week before Thanksgiving as well. We had mosquitos around dusk on the warmer nights. We just put a citronella bucket under the picnic table and used Skin So Soft on the little one and that took care of it.

I agree that the weather fluctuates from day to day, though. Bring a fan or two, pack light jackets and rain ponchos. Just prepare for anything from chilly to hot. That may sound easier to a Floridian like me, however... :thumbsup2
