Question for everyone: Wife and I are planning a trip for our 30th anniversary. It will include a start at the Grand Canyon, San Diego (specifically for the zoo) Thursday 11/2 and 1 day at Disneyland on Friday 11/3. We would like to do more at Disneyland but we are going on to Vegas for the PBR World Championships on 11/5. We have been to WDW so should we go to Cal. Adventure for our day? Do park hopper and hit highlights? Switch the zoo and DL dates due to crowd sizes? Suggestions, comments, etc appreciated!

Congrats on your 30th anniversary! For ease of driving, i'd say keep your days as they are now. Anaheim is closer to Vegas than San Diego is. I would suggest doing a park hopper if you haven't ever been to either park. Since you only have one day the park hopper will let you see the highlights. I'd also prioritize what you want to see/ride so that way you at least have a general idea of what you absolutely must do. Cars land at night should be a definite must!

Are you leaving to drive to Vegas on 11/4? You could always get a two day park hopper and try and do the parks for a half day on 11/4 before driving to Vegas. According to Google, Vegas is only a little more than 3 hours away from Anaheim.

Just my two cents. :)

I'm not trying to minimize it, because Grand Canyon would be the highlight of that trip for me, but, where are you starting from? Are you flying into AZ and driving to GC? Consider starting in SD, then doing GC after Vegas. That would get you another half or full day at DLR and more time in SD too.

Def. must keep Grand Canyon as it's on my wife's bucket list. We are flying into LV on 10/28, spending the night at the Best Western near the airport, picking up the car the next day and driving to the canyon.

oct 29 pick up rental car and drive your way to grand canyon
oct 30 spend day in Grand canyon
oct 31 drive to California. 8 hours
nov 1st rest
nov2 disneyland
nov3 zoo
nov4 drive to Vegas
nov 5 PBR

So I would think that a two day park hopper for the 1st and 2nd would be the best way to see disney

and you made the comment that since you have seen WDW, should you see DCA only

My response to that is, that if you have been to a state fair, then you have pretty much seen DCA.

...okay, so looking at the map, I can see why SD first, you are looking at wading thru Phoenix on down to 8 and west to SD, so the question is, what are you going to do Nov 1st when you rest in SD. your are going to need a day of rest, this is an extensive trip.

Since you have been to WDW, read the first few posts in this thread (A DLR Guide for WDW Vets). It will give you a general idea of the similarities and differences so you'll know whether you want park hoppers and, if not, which park you want to focus on.

How much time do you want to spend in the grand canyon? Because you will get half a day and the sunset on the 29th. Unless you want to actually hike, if you leave by noon on the 30th you can be in san Diego that night. Its going to be cold in the grand canyon. You are not going to want to hang out there. Half day at the zoo on the 31st and spend the whole day in san Diego and the night there. Leave at about noon on the 1st. Half day on the first (hit world of color desert party at dca and maybe a couple of rides). Full day on the second and third and even a half day on the 4th. The drive to Vegas is easy once you get out of SoCal. Plan to leave by two to miss traffic.
