Seriously. I had posted on another thread a while back about this, but I have to say again, the November rates are out of control. I ALWAYS book my cars 5-6 months out. Always midsize, always 8 days, ALWAYS under $280.00 to start off using discount codes. This year with codes the cheapest I can get is $408.00!!!!!!!!!:furious: I then check my rental every day and end up through diligence getting the price down quite a bit, usually below $180.00. I have never gone in November, and if this is how it is with car rates I may never again. When if ever do these rates improve?

Keep checking weekly at this point. As we get around the one-month point then check more frequently. Rental companies will adjust rates as you get closer to the actual date depending on how heavily booked their fleet is. You can't do any worse than you already have.

I get usually get the best rates for our November trips 3 or 4 weeks out, don't think I've gone over $25 a day with a full size from Alamo ever. Too early to be concerned yet :).

Try checking Dollar with no codes. There should be an option for city deals when all the rates for the cars show up. I saw a compact for 165/week before taxes and fees. Not great but better than you have been seeing.

I checked out the national code for my week, and it's a no go. For my week it would be a total of $597.25.

Over the years I've had really good luck with bidding on Priceline.com. Since you are several months out you have plenty of time to start really low. I've received some amazing deals this way.
Some years I come out way ahead of the best direct deal with coupon codes, other years I am within a few dollars of the best last minute deals, but I've never felt it wasn't the best way to go and I really want all this taken care of in advance. Just don't bid more than you want to pay.

keep checking, around 1 month before arrival you should find better, sometimes deep discounts. Also, what week are you going? Is there something going on that week that would be keeping the rental cars busy? Like a conference, marathon, jersey week?

Also, don't forget to check for member discounts if you have memberships like AAA, AARP, Costco.
