November 7, 2009 ~~~~ AHOY ST.CROIX ~~~~

We did do an October cruise in 05 so perhaps we have crusied together before. Perhaps when we meet in person on this cruise we will remember for sure.

Kathy

Our Oct 05 cruise was to the Eastern Caribbean over Halloween on the Magic. I was on that cruise meet thread a little, but didn't do anything with the DISers onboard.

Thanks for your suggestions. I had hoped to go over to St. John and just spend time on the beach there, but wanted DH to come too. Since he will be off doing SCUBA, I figure we'll just stay at St. Thomas. When we were there in 2005 we did the tour that took us to Coral World. I'll have to give that some thought again. DD will barely be 2, so I don't know if she'll really care that much about excursions. I'm probably going to wait until we get a bit closer to book anything for her so I can have a better guess as to her attention span and interests.

Gail, i am looking forward to seeing you again too.:goodvibes

Now i just need to figure out if I cruised with Shauna too.:confused3

This may be like a reunion week for us since we have cruise with 2 people on this cruise for sure and possible one more:woohoo:

I need to go back and read names here to see everyone who is coming.
Do we have a cruise mates list of everyone on this trip?
Those are great for getting aquianted.

I know theres the FE list.

If theres no list and people want to have one I will be happy to put together one and send out to everyone . Just let me know.

Gail is there going to be a cruise meet too?
I sure hope so:thumbsup2

I have never cruised over Halloween. I cant think of the exact date but it was earlier in the month and I think it was an Eastern. So we may be meeting for the first time.:goodvibes
This time if theres a meet you better show up or I will just have to find you.:lmao:
I have looked for people on cruises before and always have found them to say hello.:thumbsup2
Meeting the people from these boards is such a fun part of our cruise experience that I make it a point to meet everyone. So theres no hiding from me, although I can be a bit scary at times:rolleyes1

I love St. Johns. It is so beautiful there and the beaches are awesome.
We did the eco hike and island tour there and loved it. The ferry going there is a bit bumpy but not too bad.

Not sure what we will do yet, since we just booked and havnt had a change to really look and see whats offered.

Kathy Welcome to the group we are more than happy to have you. I am running in and out all day and when I get to my flash drive I will update the FE List. So neat that you already know a couple cruise mates.

Have a great night.

Traci

KATHY!

Are you and Hammer sailing to St. Croix with us instead of whereever with the Nanaheads????? OH MY GOSH! :dance3::dance3:

(I've sailed with Kathy and Greg TWICE! Oh, I am SO excited!)

This is the first cruise of our back to back and we have friends with us, Nina and Julio and their two little daughters from China.

Oh, Kathy. I am SO excited you guys are on this cruise!:yay::yay::yay:

I thought that pink was pretty, Gail. I guess you couldn't possibly wear it again? (I would - but then I'd rather eat liver than go clothes shopping and if I find something that looks decent, I wear it to death!)

Traci, hang tough! 14 weeks!

Hi Traci,
nice to meet you.:goodvibes From your name i assume you like Goofy. I love Goofy and Donald. They are my favorite characters:love:

Linda, I knew you would be surprized to see us here. We had two choices. This cruise and December 5th I think? But when we saw you guys were on this one we decided to jump on board.

I had toyed with the idea of using a phoney name here to get aquainted then surprize you by just showing up on the ship:rotfl2:
But I couldnt stand the thought of not chatting and being myself for the next 14 weeks. But I was tempted to fool you and Bruce.:rolleyes1

Is Dimples getting new wardrobe for this cruise or is he all set already?
I have to dig through storage to find our clothes and my pirate outfit for this cruise. I may have to borrow from Dimples if I don't find them all. He has twice the outfits that I do;)

Gotta go, its late here.

I will be back in the morning,

Kathy

Laurie from London and Shauna I still need your FE info to add you to the list.

Kathy and Greg you have been added to the list.
The current list is on page 29 and I have it also saved to e-mail out prior to the cruise.

Well guys I had a great weekend. Just to let you know your GoofyTraci was sure goofy after all the wine she drank at the wine tasting at the winery :rolleyes1. It was my first time and let me tell you I had fun and I really needed it. Things have been so crazy here. Hope everyone is doing well.

Happy Monday morning everyone:goodvibes:

Traci we have a winery tour in this part of the Willamette Valley. They have a series of older houses that are scattered and you follow the map to each one where you can sample wines, cheeses and such . Of course there is wine for sale too.;)
One of the houses is on our road about 1/2 miles from us. They have a nice outside sitting area or inside seating. I always wonder if you make all 15 houses in the day if they should be driving home:lmao: Thats a lot of wine tasting.

Well today i will look at excursions. Since we just booked I havnt had the time to really look at them. Mostly I am interested in an excursion at St. Croix because we have never been there.

Anybody here been there before?
If so do you have a suggestion for an excusrion?

time to get the laundry done and vacuum before it gets too hot. I will be checking back around lunch time (west coast time) to see whats happening here today.:cool1:

Kathy

Hi Traci

So sorry, I did try to PM you with our info but I had less than 10 posts, so no go. I guess I will have to post a few more things, then I will send it!

BTW it looks like the rest of the family members we are travelling (DMIL, DFIL, DSIL, DBIL & their kids) with won't be taking part in our group. They don't share my enthusiasm for planning... hmph.

I love that I have found other "planning nerds" (as I call myself), and that you all have such great tips and advice for us newbies.

Also... I did read a while back that some of us are trying to drop a few pounds before the cruise??
Anyone still in for this? I am working on 20 pounds myself and I can use all the support I can get. I think 13 weeks is reasonable to lose 20 pounds as long as I can stay focused.

Howdy all,

just popping in to see if anybody has been around this morning and sure enough Laurie has posted.:goodvibes

Hi Laurie, I'm with you, half the fun of the cruise is planning things and the anticipation of all we have planned.:thumbsup2

If you have any questions please ask.
Dont be shy.
Odds are some one here will know the answer.
Plus that will up your count so you can PM people:cool1:

I finished my laundry now I will be spending my afternoon drooling over excursions. Then hit DH with my picks when he gets home. He always says what ever I pick is just fine with him. That takes the challenge out of it but also it asures I will get to do what ever I want.

Gee do you think I am spoiled:rolleyes1
Yep I would say so:lmao:

Back later,

hope everyone is having a good day. Hopefully when people get home from work they will post. I am retired so you will find me here everyday, a few times a day. I know I really need to get a life outside these boards;)

I admire anyone who can diet and stick with it.:thumbsup2
I will send you lots of pixie dust to boost your efforts.

Kathy, it's a holiday (sort of) in Ontario today, so I am at home, being very nerdy on the boards x2 today! Normally I am only on at night...

What do you recommend for excursions with our 6 year olds in the ports? They are pretty tough and can handle quite a bit. They are about to be green belts in karate. :cheer2: But nonetheless they are only 6 (nearly 7 at cruise time)

Well due to their young age you are limited to what excursions will allow them.
Of course i have no idea what they like or dislike. However I do know they can do Coral World excursions for St. Thomas, either one. One includes a ride in a semi sub to view the fish under the sea without getting wet, the other one doesnt do the semi sub but the rest of the tour is the same. Free time to explore the marine life at Coral world. www.coralworld.com gives you some idea about the place. Many people with younger kids go there.
Also St. Thomas and has a butterfly farm which may or may not be something they would like. My grandkids liked the one on St. Maartin.

Also some of the city tours in the open air buses allow young kids but they are mostly riding and seeing view points so they may get bored.

Paradise point tram at St. Thomas might interest them since they are adventurious. It is a sky tram up the mountainside and at the top are a couple of trails ot hike and a tropical bird show. Awesome view up there. Best of all you dont need an excursion to do this. You can buy a ticket at the sky tram and board it. The lines do get long but several people cane get in one car at a time.

Lots of beautiful beaches but remember most are clothing optional:eek: That might be a shocker for the kids and you too:rotfl2:
Now if they can swim and snorkel at St. Thomas the Doubloon sail/ snorkel excursion is a real adventure. You snorkel off the boat and i think ts 10 or 15 feet deep. They do give instruction for beginners.

Also if they are really adventurious and want a big thrill. The Screamin Eagle Jet boats will do the trick. You must be 4 feet tall and it last about an hour.
They zip at high speeds all around the bay and will do figure 8's and get you soaked. This is a thrill ride. also at St. Thomas.

For an less intensive adventure take the St. Johns eco hike on St. Johns.
Its a fun hike, you see a sugar plantation, nice views, learn some history and get to swim for about 30 minutes towards the end of the tour. The ferry ride is a bit bumpy but not scary. I dont remember how long it was but we enjoyed the hike and so did the grandkids.

.
Other than that I can only think of a beach day there.

Never been to St. Croix, it will be new for me too.

If you see something you want to and the kids are not quite old enough you can often find a local company who will take them to do the same exact thing they can't do on Disney. Private vendors are less expensive too.

Their downside is, if they run late the ship wont wait for you.
But if your on a DCL excursion the ship will wait if you run late which is a nice perk.
We have pulled out and left people behind before.
Hope that gives you some ideas.
On CC it is easy because it's all right there. a nice beach to swim or rent snorkel gear or tubes. No need to reserve ahead of time there. Plenty of extras. Also the bikes there are great to rent. There are 2 long bike paths, one with an observation tower to climb up on. They rent for an hour but you dont check in when you return the bike, just park ti so if your a couple minutes late its no big deal. Lots of water stops too. Ice cold water in big yellow barrels.:goodvibes Helmets are provided, the bikes are all sizes and some with training wheels too.

Be sure and take time away from the beach to explore the grouper game room with your kids too. The kids clubs has a huge are on the island too and they can sign up for special events to do like sand castle building . Plus they can spend time with you too. The best of both worlds there:goodvibes

I'm retired too, but I get aggrevated with how slow the board is, and go do other things.

I need to lose weight. Laurie - Don't particularly enjoy going through the process, but lost the option earlier in the year when I was diagnosed with diabetes. I'm down 30 pounds since the beginning of the year - big whoop - 5 whole pounds a month - but it's better than going up, right? And I'm not starving, which is good. Don't know what you're doing, but relatively low carb is working for me - no white bread, white potatos, white rice, baked goodies, etc.

Kathy, you scrap - have you been over on www.twopeasinabucket.com ? Its all scrapbooking message boards. Plus there is a scrapbook board on the dis too, under creative community.

Linda, I havnt been to that site but will check it out soon, Thanks:goodvibes
I think 30 pounds is awesone:woohoo::woohoo: That is hard to do.

5 pounds a month is good. When it comes off slowly it is more likely to stay off better. I cant wait to see you. You'll look like a whole new person after 30 pounds.

Has anyone decided on what excursions they are doing if any??

My dishes are still sitting in the sink waiting for me so I better get to them.
catch everyone later,

Kathy

Happy Tuesday Everyone! I hope that you are all doing well and survived Monday! Just makes us one day closer to our turn to board the Magic.

We are doing two excursions - both DCL's. We are going to Buck Island when we are in St. Thomas and a land tour (goes to the rum factory and a few other places) in St. Croix. I will be up at midnight Sunday morning to book along with brunch. Bring it on! Feels good to have this be less than 100
days off. My panic won't set in until it is less than 10 (and I don't have anything done).

Good Morning All. Another crazy day in the operating room today. All I can think of is " Is it time to go home". I know terrible. I am tired and want to be home in my pj's. But since I cant I guess I will get some work done. I am getting nervous about excursions and Palo. This will be our first cruise so we are last to make reservations. I hope the things I would like to do are still avail. I have yet to know when to dine at palo. Everything seems so confusing to me these days.

Anyway just wanted to stop in to say hello. Everyone have a good day.:flower3: I will be here at work wishing I was on the magic :sad2:.
