November 3, 2007 - Western on the Magic

I got it at an Odd Lot store in the Poconos over the summer, was in the Poconos for the day, stopped in just to look around and came across it and said I'm going to put this away for the cruise. I know people on here have said they got them at Walmart pretty cheap and at the dollar stores too.

it's on my list- thanks!

i have 2 more questions:
1-do you really do laundry on the cruise? we didn't last year, but now I'm thinking maybe i should bring a travel size of detergent. any suggestions?; and
2-do you bring an extension cord for hair dryer, etc.? the only thing i disliked in the cabin was that darn hair dryer - the handle got too hot and couldn't hold it after a short while. thought i'd bring my own w/an extension cord...

Have never done laundry on vacation, but this year I did buy travel size laundry det., just in case. Yes we do bring an extension cord. Today I'm going out to buy a travel hair dryer, I don't like the hair dryer either.
How old is DD?

DD is 13. When do you fly out? Looking forward to meeting you! Thanks for the mini-seminar! Helped tremendously - I'm ready to face the piles now!!

wow - i guess all DHs are the same...i'd be packed in 5 minutes too if all I had to worry about were my OWN clothes. me, on the other hand - leave the house in order, make sure the bills are paid, get travelers checks, and so on - you get the drift.

boy do I need this vacation - CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
My DH is the same way. He will pack the night before and even wait till the morning we leave to get any of his toiletries together! I'm the one who packs all of the kids clothes, buys any extra things we need and organizes everything in the suitcases. I have started putting together some of my things, but probably won't start packing till next week.

amen, girlfriend!:thumbsup2

We leave a week from today for our journey down and I've got NOTHING packed, no lists made, nada. I'm still in "work" mode, last minute tie-dying, cutting for the scrapbook kits, finishing up lessons we need to get done w/ DDs before we leave...

I told them today that we'd pack next Monday, the day before we leave. :scared1:

I hear ya!

well a nerve was certainly hit regarding packing! My DH also only packs for himself and doesn't understand my stress. I have had the suitcases out for a week and started my pile but still have to get going for the DS's stuff. I know it will all get done and DH always says whatever we forget can be bought.

We are not packed. The suitcases are still in the attic. We have no lists. Yet, I'm sure all will be done before we have to leave for the airport on Nov. 2nd.

After numerous cruises, we have found that we pack and take less each time we go. Our family is pretty easy-going and laid back. No shoe holders or fish extenders. We've never done laundry on the ship. Most of our days are spent in a bathing suit and cover up. We take enough underwear for the whole trip, but I can't guarantee we won't wear some clothes more than once - especially if they were only worn for an hour or two.

As long as we remember all the suitcases (we forgot the garment bag hanging on our bedroom door one time), cameras and tickets, I consider us ready to go.

The only "extras" worth packing are a nightlight (cabins with no porthole or verandah can get pretty dark at night) and a small air freshener (helps in close quarters).

Lots of schoolwork to do before we go and we've got to get our work in order so we can be away for a week.

Can't wait!

LD:woohoo:

I know it will all get done and DH always says whatever we forget can be bought.

When I stressed out about packing the first couple years my DH would say this also but.... there are no Walmarts in the middle of the ocean. It's easy to say but don't stress too much about packing. Somehow it always gets done. All the little extras on the many lists out there are great to have but aren't trip breakers if forgotten. On our first cruise we brought everything suggested along and never found a use for the over the door shoe hanger, night light, etc.

I wish the weather would get cooler so I could get clothes from my kids at this rate I will be packing the last night along with all them men out there.

:lmao: That's EXACTLY what I told DH last night!

I know what you mean. We're still in shorts and T-shirts. This weather is insane!!

Yeah, we were in shorts and tshirts all weekend and now it has cooled off significantly. The cool weather will be there soon, so enjoy it now! I'm in Chicago, so, it's not too far away!

Can someone help me. I read in a book about the TRopical Rainforest room or some such thing and can't find any infor on DCL website. What is it for sure and how do I get booked?:confused3

I believe that you DON'T need a reservation for the Tropical Rainforest Room (a spa area with heated chairs, steam rooms), I think the fee is $15/day. I've never been, but am looking forward to it.

And I am also waiting for the weather to get cooler here, so I can pack those shorts that my children are wearing! Wow, I can't believe we'll be on the ship NEXT week! :)

I've never seen them at the port but it's very possible they have them in the little cafe. I have seen them in the store onboard. That was last year but I would think they still have them since so many kids love getting the autographs.

are autograph books available for purchase at the port before check in? i thought i read somewhere they were. The Disney Store no longer sells them and it's too late to order.

Here's a little idea if you want to skip the Autograph book. I bought my daughter two white pillowcases at Wal*Mart for about $5.99 a pack. I also bought a handful of really colorful permanent markers in noted character colors. Light blue for Cinderella, lime green for Tinkerbell or Peter Pan, pink for Sleeping Beauty, red for Mickey, etc. We will have the characters sign the cases and then that will be something DD can have and look at for a long time to come. They will also be very colorful. It won't be just a book that gets put on a shelf at home.

thanks for the ideas - i'm on the job!

this is yet ANOTHER EXAMPLE of how DHs are clueless when it comes to packing and the related details. Autographs are very important details at that!

We went to Home Depot yesterday and got the Mickey heads (in various colors!).

YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE - it's almost time for the DECK PARTY!!:cool1:
